EN: The delight of my eyes, Mr. Z. Shazar — who penetrates with a flame of fire into the depths of the sea of wisdom of the Ba'al Tefila (-the Master of Prayer), who elevates the waters of heresy and denial to the supernal faith — may Hashem lead you to the point of truth, and may your feet be strengthened, and may they go and not tire, racing to the true Tzadik who is able to repair everything. EN: Rejoice greatly in your good portion — that you have merited to what you have merited, that the truth sparkles somewhat in your mind and your thoughts long to cleave to the Ba'al Tefila. And you are included in the holy gathering, and have been saved from being among those who dispute against him. And, praise be to G-d, you have very powerful and strong desires and longings — and you act upon them greatly for the benefit of the affairs of the true Tzadik, who is the root of the collective of all the true Tzadikim, the singular ones of the generations, and rises above them all — who revealed new wonders the like of which have never been heard. Through them the fulfillment of the Torah is sustained, and His G-dliness Yisburach is revealed to all who come into the world, in every generation. EN: And behold — the Ba'al Tefila, who was always engaged in prayers and songs and praises to Hashem Yisburach, used to dwell outside the inhabited settlement. He would only enter the settlement in order to entice people to the service of Hashem Yisburach, to walk in his way. And whoever agreed to go with him — he immediately led him outside the settlement. For most of the world's settlement is very far from the true purpose and follows after the vanities and pleasures and desires of the world. And all the conduct of the Ba'al Tefila and his people was the opposite of the custom of the world's settlement — and therefore the Ba'al Tefila and his people were compelled to dwell outside the settlement. EN: And the Ba'al Tefila was always engaged in this matter, drawing people close and taking them out of the settlement — until an impression was made upon the world and the matter began to become known. For suddenly some people had escaped from the country and their whereabouts were unknown. And similarly it happened that suddenly a person's son disappeared, and the like. And they did not know where they were. And the inhabitants of the settlement were lying in ambush for the Ba'al Tefila to seize him. This was because the world had become confused and misled in their corrupted opinions to such an extent — that one who is close to the true purpose and speaks against their erroneous notions, and labors to draw people close to the service of Hashem Yisburach — they arouse against him in hatred and great war, and lie in ambush to trap and seize him. Therefore one must conduct oneself in this with great wisdom. EN: Most of the inhabitants of the settlement were so enamored of money — and so deeply immersed in it — that all their esteem and importance was measured only according to money. And one who had but little money — and especially one who was completely poor — was not at all in the category of a human being, according to their foolish opinion, and was counted among them as merely an animal or a bird. And likewise one who had much money was considered among them as above the category of a human being — in the aspect of a star, or a constellation, or an angel. To the point where there were some who had so very much money that they were considered among them almost as complete divinity and idolatry, Heaven forbid. And the people of the world had fallen so deeply into this foolishness and error of the lust for money — that the poor and those lacking money had fallen so low in their own eyes and in their own minds compared to the wealthy and the owners of money, that they almost sacrificed themselves before them, because of the self-nullification they felt in the face of the multitude of their wealth. But in truth it is not so — for the poor person too is counted among human beings just as the wealthy. And the wealthy too are only human beings — "and like grass they wither" [Psalms 90:5]. And "a man is not accompanied by silver or gold" [adapted from Psalms 49:18], etc. EN: The true Tzadik, who is the Ba'al Tefila, has such foods — that when one merits to eat and to taste from these foods, one immediately throws off the lust for money, and feels the magnitude of the putrefaction of money, which stinks exactly like excrement — to the point where one is exceedingly ashamed with one's money, and money is the greatest shame of all shames. And whoever has more money is more ashamed. And even those of lesser stature who lack money are ashamed as well — for themselves having been so low in their own eyes because of their lack of money. For now it has been revealed to them that on the contrary — money is the essential shame. And therefore the wealthy are even more ashamed, and hide themselves in the burrows of the earth because of the greatness of their shame — they are ashamed of one another, to the point where they cannot lift their faces at all because of the shame. For these foods of the Ba'al Tefila have this segula (-propitious quality) — that through them one comes to utterly despise money, and casts away the idols of silver and the idols of gold.
