עיקר קבלת המוחין והדעת, שהוא גדר האדם...
עיקר בחינת קבלת התורה, היינו, לזכות להסתכל היטב על אור השכל והחכמה שיש בכל דבר ולהתקרב על ידי זה להשם יתברך, ולהכיר אותו ולעבדו יתברך על ידי כל הדברים שבעולם, ולהכניע ולבטל הכסילות והבהמיות של חכמות חיצוניות ופילוסופיא וכלל כל התאוות והמידות רעות, שהם רוח שטות ושגעון ומעשה בהמה ממש ממש, הנמשך מבחינת מלכות הרשעה.
יש שמשוקעים כל כך בתאוותיהם, עד שעושין מעשה בהמה ממש, ואף על פי כן הם רוצים להתחכם, והם חכמים בעיניהם ונגד פניהם נבונים, ורוצים לחקור חקירות בידיעת אלקותו יתברך על פי חכמות חיצוניות, חס ושלום. גם (בין תבין) בין הכשרים קצת נמשך ונשתלשל פגם וטעות זה, שעדיין לא יצאו בשלמות ממעשה בהמה, ואף על פי כן רוצים להמציא חדשות, ואומרים דעות זרות וחכמות שקר בדרכי עבודת ה', עד אשר בריבוי זוהמת תאוותיהם...
יש כמה בני אדם שמשוקעים כל כך בתאוותיהם, כאשר הם יודעים בעצמן, (ועושים מעשה בהמה ממש, ואף על פי כן הם חכמים בעיניהם ונגד פניהם נבונים), אשר בריבוי זוהמת תאוותיהם הם גרועים מבהמות ועושים מעשה בהמה ממש, ועף על פי כן הם חכמים בעיניהם ונגד פניהם נבונים וכו', כנ"ל, ורוצים לחקור חקירות בידיעות אלקותו יתברך על פי חכמות חיצוניות.
גם בין הכשרים קצת...שיש מפורסמים של שקר, שעדיין לא יצאו לגמרי כלל ממעשה בהמה, ואף על פי כן הם חכמים בעיניהם ורוצים להנהיג את העולם, את ישראל, בדעות זרות (וחכמות שקר בדרכי עבודת ה'), וחכמות של שקר הרבה, של שטות הבל ושקר, ומתלבשים עצמם במצוות, ומעקמים לב הרבה מישראל ומרחקים אותם מהצדיק האמת, וקורין את הכשרים והיראים אמיתיים שבדור בשם כסילים ופתאים וכו'. ובאמת כולם "המה מהבל יחד", מחמת שמהפכין האמת ועושים מעשה בהמה, ואף על פי כן רוצים לידע חכמות והמצאות, ועל ידי זה אין יכולים לקבל המוח והדעת האמיתי, עד שנתעים ונבוכים בחכמות של שטות והבל.

The essential aspect of receiving the Torah — meaning to merit to look well upon the light of the intellect and the wisdom that is in every thing — and through this to draw close to Hashem Yisburach. And to recognize Him and to serve Him Yisburach through all the things in the world. And to subdue and to nullify the foolishness and the coarseness of the external wisdoms and philosophy, and the sum total of all the desires and the evil character traits — which are truly a spirit of foolishness and madness and truly the work of a beast. Which flow from the aspect of the wicked kingdom.
Segment 3
There are those who are so sunken in their desires — that they actually perform the work of a beast. And even so, they wish to become wise — and they are wise in their own eyes and discerning before their faces. And they wish to investigate investigations in the knowledge of His G-dliness Yisburach according to the external wisdoms, Heaven forbid. Also — among the somewhat worthy ones — this blemish and error has somewhat flowed and descended. That they have not yet emerged entirely from the work of a beast — and even so they wish to introduce novelties. And they express foreign opinions and false wisdoms in the paths of the service of Hashem — until through the great abundance of the filth of their desires…
Segment 4
There are many people who are so sunken in their desires — as they themselves know — (and they actually perform the work of a beast, and even so they are wise in their own eyes and discerning before their faces) — who through the great abundance of the filth of their desires are worse than beasts and actually perform the work of a beast. And even so they are wise in their own eyes and discerning before their faces, etc., as above — and they wish to investigate investigations in the knowledge of His G-dliness Yisburach according to the external wisdoms.
Segment 5
Also among the somewhat worthy ones… there are famous false ones — who have still not emerged entirely at all from the work of a beast. And even so they are wise in their own eyes and they wish to lead the world, to lead Israel — with foreign opinions (and false wisdoms in the paths of the service of Hashem) — and many false wisdoms of foolishness, vanity and falsehood. And they clothe themselves in mitzvos — and they twist the hearts of many of Israel and distance them from the true Tzadik. And they call the truly worthy and truly God-fearing ones of the generation by the name of fools and simpletons, etc. And in truth they are all "altogether vanity" [Psalms 62:10] — because they invert the truth and perform the work of a beast. And even so they wish to know wisdoms and novelties. And through this they are unable to receive the true intellect and daas — until they go astray and are confused in the foolish and vain wisdoms.
Segment 6
נ נח נחמ נחמן מאומן
A person must be very careful not to perform the work of a beast, Heaven forbid. For the daas — which is the boundary of the human being — is the exact opposite of all the desires, etc., which are the aspect of foolishness and senselessness and madness — literally the work of a beast. And when one merits through the daas to drive away the desires and the evil beastly character traits — then his intellect strengthens and is elevated. And according to the subjugation of the beastly desires — so does his intellect become elevated. And then when he arrives at the intellect — then he must know the truth that he is still far from wisdom — in the aspect of: "I said I will become wise — and it is distant from me" [Ecclesiastes 7:23]. For the essential wisdom is that he understand that wisdom is distant from him. And then specifically he must make himself like a beast — as though there is no daas within him at all. As is explained on the verse: "that G-d gave wisdom to the beast" [Job 35:11] — that it is a great wisdom to make oneself like a beast.
