הדפק דופק ונוקש באדם: לפעמים הוא נוקש באדם ומזכיר אותו לעבודת השם יתברך,בבחינת (שיר השירים ה): "קול דודי דופק", ולפעמים הוא מזכיר את האדם לעברה, חסושלום, כי הדפק בא מן הנשימה, והנשימה בא מן האויר על-ידי הדבור, וכפי הדבור כןנעשה הדפק אם לטוב או להפך:

The pulse knocks and knocks in the person. Sometimes it knocks, reminding one of service to Hashem, blessed be He, as in “The voice of my beloved knocks” [Song of Songs 5]. Other times, it reminds of transgression, G-d forbid. The pulse stems from breathing, which comes from air via speech. Thus, speech shapes the pulse—for good or the opposite.
