המחלקת מגביה ומרים את האדם, כי "האדם עץ השדה" (דברים כ), והנה עץ המנח עלהארץ, אי אפשר לו להגביה את עצמו, כי-אם על ידי שבאין עליו מים שוטפין אזי המיםמרימין ונושאין את העץ, והמחלקת נקרא מים כמו שכתוב (תהלים פ"ח): "סבוני כמים כלהיום הקיפו עלי יחד":

The controversy elevates and raises the person because “man is the tree of the field” [Deuteronomy 20]. A tree on the ground cannot rise alone, only when flooding waters come, lifting it. Controversy is called water, as in “They surrounded me like water all day; they encircled me together” [Psalms 88].
