דע שיש עצים שכשעושין מהם מטה, הם מסגלים להולדת בנים ולגדלם, וכן להפך יש שאינם מסגלים וכו'. וזה מרמז בפסוק: "שאול שאל האיש לנו ולמולדתנו" (בראשית מג). ואיתא במדרש (בראשית פרשה צ"א): 'אפלו עצי עריסותינו גלה לנו', כי על ידי עצי המטה על ידי זה סגלת ההולדה כנ"ל:

(propitious) for birth of children and to raise them and so to the opposite there are that are not

etc. and this is hinted in the verse: "Shaol asked the man for us and for our birth" [Genesis 43
