Tikunim Chadashim - Tikun 47

"And for all the mighty hand and for all the great awe which Moshe did before the eyes of all Israel." [Devarim 34:12]

I. Wall of Fire Around; Glory Within — Shechina Protects Israel in Exile

"The mighty hand" — as it is said of it: "and I shall be for it — says Hashem — a wall of fire all around" [Zechariah 2:9]. "The great awe" — as it is said: "and for glory I will be within it." For the Shechina in exile spread Her wings over Israel Her children to guard them from every side. Corresponding to this — to show Her glory in the time to come — and the love with which the King loves Her — He will arise in this same way — spreading His wings and surrounding Her — just as She surrounded Israel.

II. Israel Dwell Within — Not Outside — Even in Exile

Come and see — Israel, since they were in exile — if you say they were abandoned by the holy side — not so! — G-d forbid. Rather come and see: here it is written [Tehillim 134:1–3]: "A Song of Ascents — behold, bless Hashem — all servants of Hashem who stand in the house of Hashem in the nights." Who are the servants? — Israel in exile are servants — for service hangs in them. The mystery: "as the eyes of servants toward the hand of their master — so our eyes are toward Hashem our G-d until He shows us grace" [Tehillim 123:2].

Come and see — there are servants and there are servants. The angels are servants — of them it is said: "behold, the angels of G-d cried out in the street" [Yeshayahu 33:7] — for they stand outside. And so in exile they stand outside — going after the Shechina. But Israel — even though they are in exile — do not depart from within — rather they are always bound within. The mystery: "those who stand in the house of Hashem in the nights" — these are the exiles — for even at that time they stand within — in the house of Hashem truly.

III. All the Holy One Does Is for Israel's Good; Cleaving Deepens in Exile

Come and see — truly all that the Holy One does for Israel is for their good. The mystery: "I will give thanks to You, Hashem — for though You were angry with me" [Yeshayahu 12:1]. For Israel — at the time they are in exile — the Shechina cleaves to them still more — in order to save them from exile. And all the other levels likewise cleave to them with complete cleaving — more than they did before — even though all is in hiddenness. But at the time of the redemption — say not that that cleaving will not be found. Not so — rather all that was found in exile will not be severed at the redemption — even though it would not have been necessary. But to add light upon light — joy upon joy. "I will give thanks to You, Hashem — for though You were angry with me" truly.

Come and see — in exile Israel received the power to establish supernal Tikunim — which they would not have had the power to do had they not stood in exile. For through that cleaving that was needed to guard them — they were strengthened still more truly. And Dovid said: "behold, bless Hashem — all servants of Hashem — those who stand in the house of Hashem in the nights." For because of this they could establish supernal Tikunim still more. And what are these? — "lift up your hands to the holy." Come and see — in exile the mystery of sleep — as it is written: "and a deep sleep fell upon Avram" [Bereishis 15:12]. And this is the time of which it is said: "and He illuminates the core of the eye's daughter" — and this is the seventy-two that illuminates the forty-two — and it has been stated. Similarly in exile — Atik Kadisha guards the Shechina. For the King above ascended and they established it. And through this power the Shechina is strengthened mightily — so as not to separate from Her even at the redemption. The mystery: "lift up your hands to the holy" — this is the supernal holy truly. "And bless Hashem" — these are KuSh — in the two Mashiachs who join as one — in the supernal mystery truly. "And they shall be united in your hand" [Yechezkel 37:17]. Then: "may Hashem bless you from Zion." From where will the light of the Tikun go out to the world? — From Zion — and this is the Temple — in it: "and for glory I will be within it" [Zechariah 2:9] — Her glory literally. For through all the Tikunim She established in exile — the King joins with Her at the redemption. And: "for glory I will be within it" — for glory truly.
