"And for all the mighty hand and for all the great awe which Moshe did before the eyes of all Israel." [Devarim 34:12]

The Sin of Kayin; The Sin of Adam; Erev Rav and the Calf; Wiped Out in Wilderness

"The mighty hand" — this is the rectification [tikun] of the sin of Kayin. "The great awe" — the rectification of the sin of Adam. Come and see — at the time Adam sinned — he caused the Sitra Achra to spread. Once Kayin sinned — he caused it to rule over the holy side. In the time to come — all will be rectified.

And this is "the mighty hand" — to return the holy side to its strength — not to be subjugated under the impure side. "The great awe" — to return matters to their places in a complete Tikun.

Then the great Prince Metatron came and opened, saying: Rebbe Rebbe — "this people I formed for Myself" [Yeshayahu 43:21] — these are Israel. The mystery: "a unique nation in the land" [Shemuel II 7:23] — and this is Zu [זו]. Zayin is the Shechina; Vav is the Tzaddik. From their Yichud Israel emerge. Therefore: "they shall declare My praise" — to establish the Shechina. For therefore this Tikun was transmitted to them and not to another. And the Erev Rav — at the time they made the [Golden] Calf — they caused a separation between six [Tiferes/Vav] and seven [Shechina] — as it is stated [Tikunei Zohar, Tikun 13, 28b]. All in order to give strength to their wicked mother — that is Lilit the evil maidservant. The mystery: "the desolate shall be filled" [Yechezkel 26:2].

And the calf = 102 [ק׳ב] — like this: מ׳ו ל׳ז י׳ט [= 46+37+19 = 102]. The masechah [molten image] — these are the 120 permutations of Elohim — and its five letters. For through all of them they clung to Havayah and to Elohim [unifying both aspects in the impure act]. But come and see — a supernal mystery: the tablets of stone [luchot even] are from the side of the Shechina — and this is Elohim. But the stone [even = א׳ב׳ן] is Ban [ב׳ן] — which was prepared corresponding to three that rest upon it — and these are Samech-Mem [the Accuser] and his consort. And these are the letters engraved in the tablets. Once the Erev Rav sinned — they removed this Ban from its place. How? — For they clung to Elohim truly — and from there they were strengthened to remove that Ban from its place. And from those Samech-Mem emerged that 102 — which is the dross of a Kav [measure of carob-pods, Taanis 9a] — and this is the calf. Then the letters flew from the tablets — and the tablets broke. Then the sin of Adam returned to its place — and they caused the Sitra Achra to spread in the world. Then death — which had been removed — returned. As it is said: "surely like Adam you shall die" [Tehillim 82:7]. Afterward with the Spies — they returned to strengthen the Sitra Achra further — and then the sin of Kayin returned to its place — and a place was given to the Sitra Achra to rule over the holy. At that time the decree was decreed to destroy the Temple — and this has been stated [Taanis 29a]. And those in the wilderness died — in order to be purified there from the defilement that had strengthened over them. The mystery: "in this wilderness they shall be consumed" [Bamidbar 14:35] — tamim [complete, innocent] truly. But therefore: "and there they shall die" — for death was needed there in order to be purified. And in the time to come — all these sins will be rectified together. "The mighty hand and the great awe" truly.
