## Segment 1

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

מִי שֶׁשּׁוֹמֵר אֶת עַצְמוֹ מִכַּעַס, שׂוֹנְאָיו אֵינָם שׁוֹלְטִים עָלָיו.

1. One who guards himself from anger, those who hate him have no dominion over him.


## Segment 2

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

גַּם יִשְׁכֹּן בְּבֵיתוֹ, לֹא יָדוּרוּ אֲחֵרִים בִּמְקוֹמוֹ.

</div>

2. Also, he will dwell in his house, and others will not lodge in his place.


## Segment 3

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי הַכַּעַס נִתְבַּזֶה.

</div>

3. Through anger, one is humiliated.


## Segment 4

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

לֹא תִּרְתַּח וְלֹא תֶּחֱטָא.

</div>

4. Do not lose your temper and you will not sin.


## Segment 5

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

כָּל הַכּוֹעֵס – חָכְמָתוֹ וּנְבוּאָתוֹ מִסְתַּלֶקֶת, וַאֲפִלּוּ פּוֹסְקִין לוֹ גְּדֻלָּה מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם, מוֹרִידִין אוֹתוֹ מִגְּדֻלָּתוֹ.

5. Anyone who becomes angry; his wisdom and prophetic ability departs. And even if greatness has been decreed for him in Heaven, he is brought down from his greatness.


## Segment 6

הַקָּדוֹשׁ־בָּרוּךְ־הוּא אוֹהֵב לְמִי שֶׁאֵינוֹ כּוֹעֵס וּלְמִי שֶׁאֵינוֹ מַעֲמִיד עַל מִדּוֹתָיו.

6. The Holy One Blessed be He loves one who does not become angry and one who does not harbor resentment.


## Segment 7

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

הָרַתְחָן – חַיָּיו אֵינָם חַיִּים.

</div>

7. A hot-tempered person's life is not worth living.


## Segment 8

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

גַּם כָּל מִינֵי גֵיהִנֹּם שׁוֹלְטוֹת בּוֹ.

</div>

8. Also, all sorts of hell reign over (or afflict) him.


## Segment 9

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

וְתַחְתּוֹנִיּוּת שׁוֹלֶטֶת בּוֹ.

</div>

9. And is overcome with hemorrhoids (in the shape of figs).


## Segment 10

שְׁכִינָה אֵינָהּ חֲשׁוּבָה כְּנֶגְדּוֹ.

</div>

10. The Divine Presence is not important to him.


## Segment 11

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

וּמְשַׁכֵּחַ תַּלְמוּדוֹ.

</div>

11. And he forgets his learning.


## Segment 12

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

וּמוֹסִיף טִפְּשׁוּת.

</div>

12. And increases stupidity.


## Segment 13

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

וּבְיָדוּעַ שֶׁעֲווֹנוֹתָיו מְרֻבִּים מִזְּכֻיּוֹתָיו.

</div>

13. And it is certain that his sins are more than his merits.


## Segment 14

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

כַּעַס אַחַר אֲכִילָה מַזִּיק מְאֹד.

</div>

14. Anger after eating is very damaging.


## Segment 15

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

כַּעַס שֶׁל אִשָּׁה מַחֲרִיב אֶת הַבַּיִת.

</div>

15. The anger of a woman destroys the house.


## Segment 16

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי כַּעַס בְּשָׂרוֹ נִכְחָשׁ.

</div>

16. Through anger one's flesh becomes emaciated.


## Segment 17

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

סְגֻלָּה לְכַעַס שֶׁיֹּאכַל פַּת שַׁחֲרִית.

</div>

17. It is conducive for [avoiding (or possibly: calming)] anger, to eat bread in the morning.


## Segment 18

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

אָדָם שֶׁאֵין מִתְלוֹנֵן עַל הַבְּרִיּוֹת, יֵהֵא יָקָר בְּעֵינֵי הַבְּרִיּוֹת.

18. One who does not complain about people will be esteemed in peoples' eyes.


## Segment 19

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי שֶׁקֶר בָּא כַּעַס.

</div>

19. Through falsehood comes anger.


## Segment 20

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

מִי שֶׁהוּא כַּעֲסָן, יִדֹּר נֶדֶר וִישַׁלֵּם תֵּכֶף, עַל־יְדֵי זֶה יְבֻטַּל מִמֶּנּוּ הַכַּעַס.

20. One with a bad temper should make a pledge and pay it immediately. Through this the anger will be annulled from him.


## Segment 21

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

מִי שֶׁמִּסְתַּכֵּל בִּפְנֵי שַׁקְרָן, בָּא לִידֵי כַּעַס.

21. One who gazes at the face of a liar comes to anger.


## Segment 22

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי קִנְאָה בָּא לְכַעַס.

</div>

22. Through jealousy one comes to anger.


## Segment 23

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי כַּעַס מְגָרֶה עַל עַצְמוֹ דִּינִים.

</div>

23. Through anger one incites upon oneself harsh judgments.


## Segment 24

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי כַּעַס מוֹלִיד בָּנִים שׁוֹטִים.

</div>

24. Through anger one sires foolish children.


## Segment 25

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי כַּעַס נִתְקַצְרוּ יָמָיו.

</div>

25. Through anger, one's lifespan is shortened.


## Segment 26

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

סְגֻלָּה לְכַעַס – שֶׁתַּשְׁפִּיל גֵּאִים.

</div>

26. It is conducive to (dispelling or preventing) anger, that you lower the haughty.


## Segment 27

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

כְּשֶׁלֹּא יִהְיֶה לְךָ כַּעַס, עַל־יְדֵי זֶה תּוּכַל בְּהִסְתַּכְּלוּתְךָ לְהַכְנִיעַ בַּעֲלֵי־גַּאֲוָה.

27. When you don't have anger, through this you will be able, with your gaze, to humble the arrogant.


## Segment 28

מִי שֶׁהוּא כַּעֲסָן, בְּיָדוּעַ שֶׁהוּא אוֹהֵב כָּבוֹד, וַאֲפִלּוּ כָּל הַמִּצְווֹת שֶׁעוֹשֶׂה, אֵינוֹ עוֹשֶׂה אֶלָּא בִּשְׁבִיל כָּבוֹד.

28. One who has a bad temper, it is certain that he loves honor, and even all the commandments (good deeds) he does, he only does for honor.


## Segment 29

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

הַכּוֹעֵס עַל עָנִי מְכֻבָּד, כְּאִלּוּ הִקְנִיט אֶת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ.

29. One who is angry at an honorable pauper, it is as if he taunted G-d.


## Segment 30

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

גַּם נִתְאַלֵּם.

</div>

30. Also, he becomes mute.


## Segment 31

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

וְנַעֲשָׂה מְצֹרָע.

</div>

31. And becomes a leper.


## Segment 32

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

מִי שֶׁמְּשַׁבֵּר אֶת מִדַּת הַכַּעַס, יִזְכֶּה לְשֵׁם טוֹב.

</div>

32. One who breaks the vice of anger will merit a good name.


## Segment 33

לִפְעָמִים בָּא כַּעַס עַל־יְדֵי מַשָּׂא כְּבֵדָה.

</div>

33. Sometimes anger comes through (bearing) a heavy burden.


## Segment 34

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי כַּעַס בָּא עַצְבוּת.

</div>

34. Through anger comes depression.


## Segment 35

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

כַּעַס בָּא עַל־יְדֵי הִתְבּוֹדְדוּת שֶׁאֵינוֹ כָּרָאוּי.

</div>

35. Anger comes through hisbodidus (seclusion) not carried out appropriately.


## Segment 36

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי הַקְפָּדָה אֵין שָׁלוֹם.

</div>

36. Through choler, there is no peace.


## Segment 37

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי אֲכִילָה נִסְתַּלֵּק הַכַּעַס.

</div>

37. Through eating, anger departs.


## Segment 38

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

תִּשְׁמֹר אֶת עַצְמְךָ מִכַּעַס, בְּיוֹם שֶׁנַּעֲשָׂה לְךָ יְשׁוּעָה.

</div>

38. Guard yourself from anger on a day in which you had a salvation.


## Segment 39

עַל־יְדֵי צְדָקָה נִתְבַּטֵּל הַכַּעַס.

</div>

39. Through (giving) charity, anger is annulled.


## Segment 40

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי הַכַּעַס אִשָּׁה מְקַשָּׁה לֵילֵד.

</div>

40. Through anger, a woman has difficulty in childbirth (or having children).


## Segment 41

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

הַכַּעַס מַפְחִיד אֶת הָאָדָם.

</div>

41. Anger frightens a person.


## Segment 42

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

הַכַּעַס מַזִּיק לְהָרְאוּת.

</div>

42. Anger damages eyesight.
