## Segment 1

מִי שֶׁמְּשַׁתֵּף אֶת עַצְמוֹ בְּצָרוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל וּמִתְפַּלֵּל עֲלֵיהֶם, עַל־יְדֵי זֶה בָּא לַעֲנָוָה.

1. One who shares in the suffering of the Jewish People, and prays for them, through this he comes to humility.


## Segment 2

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי אֱמֶת יִזְכֶּה לַעֲנָוָה.

2. Through truth, one will merit to humility.


## Segment 3

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי אֱמוּנָה בָּא הַכְנָעָה.

</div>

3. Through faith one comes to submission.


## Segment 4

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי קְבִיעוּת מָקוֹם לִתְפִלָּה בָּא לִידֵי עֲנָוָה וַחֲסִידוּת.

4. Through retaining a specific place for prayer, one comes to humility and piety (hassidut).


## Segment 5

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה תְּפִלָּתוֹ נִשְׁמַעַת, וּכְאִלּוּ הִקְרִיב כָּל הַקָּרְבָּנוֹת.

5. Through humility one's prayer is heard, and it is as if he had offered all the sacrifices.


## Segment 6

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה מוֹסִיפִין לוֹ גְּדֻלָּה עַל גְּדֻלָּתוֹ.

6. Through humility, additional greatness is added to one's greatness.


## Segment 7

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה מַאֲרִיךְ יָמִים.

7. Through humility, one's days are lengthened.


## Segment 8

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה אֵין מְדַקְדְּקִין אַחַר מַעֲשָׂיו.

8. Through humility, one's deeds are not scrutinized.


## Segment 9

יוֹם שֶׁאַתָּה מַקְטִין אֶת עַצְמְךָ, יוֹם הַזֶּה מוֹסִיף כֹּחַ וּגְבוּרָה וְהִתְרוֹמְמוּת בִּקְדֻשָּׁה שֶׁל מַעְלָה.

9. The day on which you humble yourself, that day adds strength, might, and exaltation to the Holiness Above.


## Segment 10

כְּשֶׁאַתָּה רוֹאֶה שֶׁעֲנָוָה נִתְרַבָּה בָּעוֹלָם, תְּצַפֶּה לְרַגְלֵי דִּמְשִׁיחָא.

10. When you see that humility is increasing in the world, be expectant for the footsteps of the Messiah.


## Segment 11

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה נִתְבַּטֵּל פַּחַד הָאוֹיְבִים.

11. Through humility, fear of enemies is annulled.


## Segment 12

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה נִתְבַּטֵּל הַמַּחֲלֹקֶת וְהַיִּסּוּרִין.

</div>

12. Through humility, contention and suffering is annulled.


## Segment 13

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה הַכֹּל עִמּוֹ בְּשָׁלוֹם.

13. Through (one's having) humility, everyone is at peace with him.


## Segment 14

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה בָּא חֵן.

14. Through humility comes grace.


## Segment 15

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

מִי שֶׁיֵּשׁ לוֹ הַכְנָעָה, אֵין לוֹ מוֹרָא, כְּאִלּוּ יוֹשֵׁב בְּמָצוֹר.

15. One who has the quality of submission, does not have fear, as if he were sitting in a fortress.


## Segment 16

מִי שֶׁאֵין בּוֹ הַכְנָעָה, אֵין בּוֹ יִרְאָה.

16. Someone without the quality of submission has no fear (of Heaven).


## Segment 17

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה נִתְגַּדֵּל, גַּם אֵינוֹ נוֹפֵל מִמַּדְרֵגָתוֹ.

17. Through humility one becomes great, also he does not fall from his level.


## Segment 18

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

מִי שֶׁהוּא לֵב רַךְ, הוּא יָכוֹל לְהַכְנִיעַ אֶת עַצְמוֹ בְּיוֹתֵר.

18. Someone who is soft hearted, he can submit himself more extremely (to the extreme).


## Segment 19

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ־בָּרוּךְ־הוּא זוֹכֵר אוֹתוֹ.

19. Through humility, the Holy One Blessed He remembers him.


## Segment 20

עַל־יְדֵי עֲנָוָה הַקָּדוֹשׁ־בָּרוּךְ־הוּא עוֹשֶׂה לוֹ תַּאֲוָתוֹ.

20. Through humility, the Holy One Blessed is He fulfills one's desires.


## Segment 21

אֵין הָעוֹלָם מִתְקַיֵּם אֶלָּא עַל מִי שֶׁמֵּשִׂים עַצְמוֹ כְּאַיִן.

21. The world is only sustained by one who makes himself as nothing.


## Segment 22

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

סְגֻלָּה לְבָנִים – לְהַקְטִין אֶת עַצְמוֹ.

</div>

1. A segulah (auspicious) for having sons is to humble oneself.


## Segment 23

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

עַל־יְדֵי גַּאֲוָה רַבָּה נִבְעָל כְּאִשָּׁה.

</div>

2. Through excessive arrogance, one will be sodomized like a woman.


## Segment 24

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

הָאָדָם נִכָּר בְּקוֹלוֹ, אִם הוּא עָנָו אוֹ בַּעַל־גַּאֲוָה.

</div>

3. One can recognize in a man's voice, whether he is humble or arrogant.


## Segment 25

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

לִפְעָמִים עַל־יְדֵי שִׁפְלוּת שֶׁאָדָם מַשְׁפִּיל אֶת עַצְמוֹ, אוֹ אֲחֵרִים מַשְׁפִּילִין אוֹתוֹ, עַל־יְדֵי זֶה מְבַטְּלִין מֵעָלָיו גְּזֵרַת מִיתָה.

4. Sometimes, through the lowliness with which a person diminishes himself, or through others diminishing him, through this is annulled a decree of death which was passed upon him.


## Segment 26

כְּשֶׁאָדָם מַרְגִּישׁ בְּעַצְמוֹ שִׁפְלוּת, יֵדַע שֶׁמִּיתָה נִגְזְרָה עָלָיו.

5. When a person senses lowliness in himself, he should know that death has been decreed upon him.
