אמר: אצלי העקר הוא ראש השנה, ותכף כשחולף ועובר ראש השנה. אני מטה אזני ושומע אם מכין בכתל לעורר לסליחות לשנה הבאה. כי אין שום זמן כלל, כי כל השנה חולף ועובר כהרף עין:

He said: For me the essence is Rosh HaShanah. And immediately when Rosh HaShanah has passed and gone — I incline my ear and listen whether they are already knocking on the wall to arouse people to the Selichos prayers for the coming year. For there is no time at all — the entire year passes and is gone in the blink of an eye.[397]
