בְּיוֹם חֲמִישִׁי נָסַע עִמָּנוּ רַבִּי מָרְדְּכַי הַנַּ"ל לְאָדֶעסָא כִּי כְּבָר הָיָה מוּכָן בְּלא זֶה לִנְסֹעַ לְאָדֶעס לִמְחוֹז חֶפְצוֹ וְנָסַעְנוּ יַחַד וּבָאנוּ לְאָדֶעס לְשָׁלוֹם בְּיוֹם שִׁשִּׁי עֶרֶב שַׁבָּת קדֶשׁ פָּרָשַׁת פְּקוּדֵי:

Afterward I ate the midday meal at Rabbi Avraham's house. And all our anshei sh'lomaynu traveled home. Among our people there was a young man who was there for the first time — and he was Rabbi Chaim Nachum son of Rabbi Shmuel of Zorin. He was a widower who had divorced his wife. And he had come to my house two months before Chanukah. And I drew him very close because of the love of his father — who was one of our anshei sh'lomaynu. And I had very much wished to make a match for him. But it had not come about. And also since the matter of the journey to Eretz Yisroel was hidden in my mind — and I could not take upon myself any commitment — nor did the local rav or Rabbi Yoske may their lights shine wish to take on any commitment at all in the holy community of Breslov.
