בְּחֹרֶף תקס"ה צִוָּה עָלַי לִנְסֹעַ לְחוֹתְנִי לִקְהִלַּת-קדֶשׁ מָאהְלוֹב לְבַקֵּשׁ מֵאִתּוֹ, שֶׁיִּתֵּן לִי אֵיזֶה רַבָּנוּת בְּאֵיזֶה עִיר וְכוּ', וּבָרוּךְ הַשֵּׁם שֶׁנִּצַּלְתִּי מִזֶּה:

And right away during that same winter, my father — may his light shine — expelled me from his table, and I was forced to eat at my grandfather's [table], while my wife ate at my father's — may his light shine. And there is much to tell about all of this. And yet despite all this, Hashem Blessed be He helped me, and during that winter I was with Rabbainu zichrono livracha several times. Before Chanukah I stayed with him for about three weeks, until after Shabbas Chanukah.
