## Segment 1

הוּא הָיָה עוֹמֵד בִּרְעָדָה כָּזוֹ, בְּיִרְאָה, בִּדְבֵקוּת כָּזֶה, בְּשִׂמְחָה כָּזֶה, הוּא רָצָה לִרְאוֹת תֵּכֶף אֶת זֶה - "וְיֵדַע כָּל פָּעוּל כִּי אַתָּה פְּעַלְתּוֹ".

Oy — what happened in the wilderness…


## Segment 2

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

כָּל הָעוֹלָם לֹא יָדְעוּ אֵיפֹה רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֲנִי הִרְגַּשְׁתִּי שֶׁהוּא נִמְצָא לְמַטָּה בַּבֵּית-כְּנֶסֶת, אָז הָלַכְתִּי לִשְׁמֹעַ, לִרְאוֹת מַה יֵּשׁ שָׁמָּה. אֲנִי בָּאתִי וְרָאִיתִי שֶׁהוּא לֹא יָכוֹל לָזוּז הָלְאָה, "וְיֵדַע כָּל פָּעוּל כִּי אַתָּה פְּעַלְתּוֹ".

I was sitting on the camel. A cart passed in front of it and the camel was greatly frightened — it rose up in great anger and I could not hold on, and it threw me to the sky. Everyone said: "He has perished — there is no hope for his life. He is gone — he has received a death blow!"


## Segment 3

אַיי, הוּא אָמַר אֵלֶּה הַדִּבּוּרִים, הוּא טָעַן עִם הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ, "מָתַי יִהְיֶה זֶה 'וְיֵדַע כָּל פָּעוּל כִּי אַתָּה פְּעַלְתּוֹ'?"

Hashem performed a miracle. It was summertime — the time of cutting the wheat, the harvest season. There was a mound of straw and I fell onto the mound of straw and remained alive. Afterwards I was struck with an eye illness.


## Segment 4

הָיָה רוֹעֵד כָּל כֻּלּוֹ וְגַם כָּל הַבִּנְיָן רָעַד, "וְיֵדַע כָּל פָּעוּל כִּי אַתָּה פְּעַלְתּוֹ". בַּצִּיוּן שֶׁל רַבִּי שִׁמְעוֹן הוּא לֹא הָיָה נִכְנַס עִם נַעֲלַיִם. הָיָה בַּחֹרֶף, בַּקֹּר, כְּשֶׁהָיָה קֹר כָּזֶה.. בְּלִי נַעֲלַיִם, כְּמוֹ בְּקֹדֶשׁ הַקָּדָשִׁים. וְהוּא הָיָה בּוֹכֶה.. אֲנִי לֹא יָכוֹל לְתָאֵר. יְכוֹלִים לַחֲשֹׁב שֶׁזֶּה שֶׁקֶר, אִי אֶפְשָׁר דָּבָר כָּזֶה, אֵיפֹה יֵשׁ לַגּוּף כָּל-כָּךְ דְּמָעוֹת, כָּל-כָּךְ קוֹל, אֵיךְ!

Oy vey, oy vey — such an illness… Miracles that I saw all the days of my life afterwards, in my eyes. The eyes were inflamed — I could not see at all. My father was blind, and I saw that I was becoming blind like my father. I became very weak — I had such an eye pain that it was impossible to live, to bear it.


## Segment 5

אֲבָל אֲנִי רָאִיתִי שֶׁבְּכָל פַּעַם הָיָה יוֹתֵר חָזָק הַבְּכִי, הַדְּמָעוֹת. אַדְרַבָּא, הָיָה מִתְגַּבֵּר.

This went on for some days, and afterwards the illness subsided somewhat — but I had no strength and could not see with my eyes. I was told there was a group of twenty men who were traveling to Teveriah. But I had no strength and had not eaten — I was not a human being, only like one already gone…


## Segment 6

זֶה הָיָה בַּחֹרֶף, קַר מְאֹד, וְהוּא בַּמָּקוֹם שֶׁעָמַד, וּכְשֶׁהוּא גָּמַר הוּא הָלַךְ מֵהַצִּיּוּן, יָצָא.. כְּמוֹ שֶׁפּוֹתְחִים דֶּלֶת שֶׁל תַּנּוּר, בֵּית-מֶרְחָץ. הָיָה יוֹצֵא חֹם מֵהַצִּיּוּן. וְהַצִּיּוּן הָיָה רָטֹב מֵהַדְּמָעוֹת, וְעַל הַצִּיּוּן הָיָה כְּמוֹ נַחַל, כְּמוֹ שֶׁשּׁוֹפְכִים מַיִם!

So it was — I walked with them. There was a Sefardic Jew there who had a shop in a village. When my eyes were hurting I was at his place, and he had a donkey and was going with them to Teveriah. I asked the donkey's owner that he give me the donkey to ride on — and he said to me: "I have wheat on the donkey — I cannot." Then robbers came and took the donkey together with the wheat.


## Segment 7

וַאֲנִי עוֹמֵד שָׁם, "אֵיךְ זוֹכִים לָזֶה, אֲנִי רוֹצֶה גַּם-כֵּן לִבְכּוֹת, אֲנִי רוֹצֶה גַּם-כֵּן. מֵאֵיפֹה לוֹקְחִים אֶת זֶה.."

I said: "I also want Teveriah — I do not want to work. I want to do teshuvah. I want to return to Rabbi Yisroel Kardoner."


## Segment 8

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

רֹאשׁ-הַשָּׁנָה שֶׁל רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל, מָשִׁיחַ הָיָה בָּעוֹלָם הַזֶּה אִם לֹא הָיוּ מִתְלוֹצְצִים וּמְבַזִּים אֶת בְּרֶסְלֵב. הוּא הָיָה דּוֹאֵג תָּמִיד עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל. תָּמִיד הָיָה לוֹ צַעַר כָּזֶה עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל, "אֵיפֹה, אֵיפֹה עַם יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֵיפֹה הַתּוֹרָה, אֵיפֹה!"

They were twenty men and they all went and left me — I could not continue walking. What was to be done? And I walked with some garment — then an Arab came. He searched and found no money, so he left me naked and took the clothing and left.


## Segment 9

אֵיךְ אֲנַחְנוּ יְכוֹלִים לָנוּחַ, לֶאֱכֹל וְלִישֹׁן בְּצַעַר בְּצָרוֹת כָּאֵלֶּה שֶׁל עַם יִשְׂרָאֵל?

Fine — they had gone. But I could not continue — could not walk. I had no shoes; I was ill; my legs and my eyes — in any case they went and I remained. Oy, who can tell it…


## Segment 10

וְהַיּוֹם הוּא מַנְהִיג יִשְׂרָאֵל! לוֹקְחִים כָּל הַכֶּסֶף וְכָל הַכָּבוֹד וְכָל הַגְּדֻלָּה שֶׁל בְּרֶסְלֶב, וַאֲנִי - אֲנִי הַמַּנְהִיג!

I remained without bread, without water, without anything. What could come of this?


## Segment 11

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

יֵשׁ הַרְבֵּה מַנְהִיגִים אֲבָל זֶה לֹא בְּרֶסְלֶב, בְּרֶסְלֶב יֵשׁ מְעַט. אֲבָל זֶה טוֹב, "טוֹב מְעַט לַצַּדִּיק"!

I saw where I was — what could become of me. At night lions and wild beasts would eat me and no person would know of it. I pictured it in my mind: "They will eat me — I will still be alive while they eat my hands and feet."


## Segment 12

אוֹי, צָרִיךְ לָלֶכֶת לְכָל הַשַּׁקְרָנִים שֶׁיֵּדְעוּ מַה זֶּה. הַמִּתְנַגְּדִים בְּרֹאשׁ-הַשָּׁנָה הָיָה לָהֶם בִּזָּיוֹן, הֵם בָּאוּ לִזְרֹק אֲבָנִים, אָז הֵם שָׁמְעוּ אֶת הַתְּפִלּוֹת שֶׁלָּנוּ בְּרֹאשׁ-הַשָּׁנָה וְהַנִּגּוּנִים וְהַזְּמִירוֹת, אָז הָלְכוּ בְּלִי אֲבָנִים. נָפַל עֲלֵיהֶם פַּחַד...

I thought: "What pain will I have — I want to see a bed. From where does one see one?" I have no water, no bread, nothing — what can happen…


## Segment 13

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל עָלָיו-הַשָּׁלוֹם הִתְחִיל לִשְׁתּוֹת בַּבַּיִת וְרָקַד בַּבַּיִת, וַאֲנִי רָאִיתִי שֶׁבְּכָל רֶגַע שֶׁעוֹבֵר יוֹתֵר, הוּא יוֹצֵא מִן הָעוֹלָם לְעוֹלָם אַחֵר...

So I saw that I was in such distress. I said: "Here there is no one to be ashamed before — I will cry out to the heavens, to the heart of the heavens. I will cry out with all my strength until I die!"


## Segment 14

עַל-כָּל-פָּנִים הוּא הִתְחִיל לָלֶכֶת מֵהַבַּיִת, מֵהַדֶּלֶת לָרְחוֹב, לְהוֹדִיעַ שֶׁפּוּרִים, "לְהוֹדִיעַ, לְהוֹדִיעַ, לְהוֹדִיעַ, לְהוֹדִיעַ..", אֲנִי הָלַכְתִּי אִתּוֹ, וְהוּא הָלַךְ כָּל הָרְחוֹב לִמְקוֹם הַמִּתְנַגְּדִים גְּדוֹלִים. הֵם לֵצִים, הֵם מִתְלוֹצְצִים מִבְּרֶסְלֶב. וְשָׁמָּה הוּא הָלַךְ וְנִכְנַס לַבַּיִת וְכֻלָּם יָשְׁבוּ וְשָׁתוּ יַיִן וְסִפְּרוּ מִפּוּרִים. וְהוּא נִכְנַס כְּמוֹ לַבַּיִת שֶׁלּוֹ.. וְרָקַד!

I cried out such cries… and told Hashem: "You see my situation — what can become of me. I want to do teshuvah; I want to live." And I said: "Master of the Universe — You are all-powerful. You can help me. If You will help me to emerge from here alive… then I dedicate all the days of my life only to serving Hashem!"


## Segment 15

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

אָז הָיָה שָׁמָּה זָקֵן אֶחָד, רַב לֶיְשְׁקֶה, הוּא אָמַר לִי: "אַתָּה מֵבִין הָרִקּוּדִים שֶׁלּוֹ שֶׁל רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל? אַתָּה מֵבִין מַה זֶּה? זֶה רִקּוּדִים פִּלְאִיִּים מְאֹד!"

And I took upon myself a vow that cannot be annulled. There is such a vow that cannot be annulled — a vow made on the consent of the many [neder al da'as rabbim] — and I accepted it upon myself: "Master of the Universe — I see that here I am far from life. But if You will help me… I dedicate all the days of my life solely to the service of Hashem!"


## Segment 16

כָּכָה הוּא אָמַר לִי, הָרֹאשׁ, הָרֹאשׁ שֶׁל הַמִּתְנַגְּדִים, הָרֹאשׁ שֶׁלָּהֶם! הוּא רָאָה אֶת הָרִקּוּדִים שֶׁל רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אָז הוּא נִתְבַּטֵּל!

Nu, nu — I cried out…


## Segment 17

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל הוּא נִכְנַס בֵּין הַמִּתְנַגְּדִים, בֵּין נְחָשִׁים וְעַקְרַבִּים, וְהוּא עָשָׂה מֵהֶם אַיִן וָאֶפֶס. נוּ, מִי רָאָה דָּבָר כָּזֶה? אֵיךְ הָיָה לוֹ גְּבוּרָה כָּזֶה לְהִכָּנֵס בְּתוֹךְ הַשִּׂמְחָה שֶׁל הַבַּעַל-דָּבָר וּלְהַגִּיד לוֹ וּלְהַרְאוֹת לוֹ: "בֹּא, בֹּא, בֹּא, בֹּא, אֲנִי לֹא מְפַחֵד מִמְּךָ!"

In the forest sounds carry very far. So I heard the sounds of horses — the horses walking with iron shoes. I said: "Perhaps this is salvation!"


## Segment 18

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

מִי שֶׁרוֹאֶה הָרִקּוּד שֶׁלּוֹ שֶׁל רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל.. נִתְבַּטֵּל לְגַמְרֵי!

And so it was — it was salvation. Two horses came with riders. They saw me — my clothing was wet from the tears flowing from my eyes — and they groaned over my situation. They said to me: "What can we do for you?"


## Segment 19

בְּהֶעְלֵם אֲנִי נָסַעְתִּי לִירוּשָׁלַיִם. אֲנִי הָיִיתִי בִּטְבֶרְיָה, רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל נִפְטַר וְנִשְׁאַרְתִּי לְבַד. אֶחָד בָּעִיר, אֶחָד! וְצָחַקְתִּי מִכֻּלָּם. אֲנִי רָקַדְתִּי בְּבֵיתִי וְתָמִיד הָיָה בְּבֵיתִי שִׂמְחָה, נִגּוּנִים וְרִקּוּדִים, אֲפִלּוּ לְבַד וּבְשַׁבָּת. וְזֶה הָיָה כֹּחַ כָּזֶה, זֶה הָיָה פֶּלֶא, דְּבַר פֶּלֶא מֵרַבֵּנוּ. וְגַם-כֵּן כָּל מַה שֶּׁעָשִׂיתִי הָיָה קִדּוּשׁ הַשֵּׁם. נָסַעְתִּי לִירוּשָׁלַיִם, אָז כָּל הָעִיר טְבֶרְיָה כֻּלָּם יוֹדְעִים: "יִשְׂרָאֵל בֶּער, לֹא שָׁמַעְנוּ אֶת הַזְּמִירוֹת שֶׁל שַׁבָּת, כַּנִּרְאֶה הוּא הָלַךְ לִירוּשָׁלַיִם".

I said to myself: "What can I ask of them — they see my situation."


## Segment 20

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

וּכְשֶׁבָּאתִי אָז הֵם אָמְרוּ: "הוֹ.. יִשְׂרָאֵל בֶּער הוּא כְּבָר בָּא מִירוּשָׁלַיִם, הוּא הֵבִיא נִגּוּנִים חֲדָשִׁים".

They said they were going to the village and there they would say that I had fled from the army — and then soldiers from the village would already capture me. So they decided: "He must be brought to the village." And they went — and I did not see them again.


## Segment 21

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

הֵבֵאתִי לִטְבֶרְיָה אֶת הַחוֹלֶה בְּמַחֲלַת הַשִּׁכְחָה, וְכָל הָעִיר הִתְפַּלְּאוּ: "יִשְׂרָאֵל בֶּער הֵבִיא לִטְבֶרְיָה אוֹרֵחַ עַל שַׁבָּת. הָאִשָּׁה אֵין לָהּ חֲתִיכַת לֶחֶם, וְאֵיךְ הוּא הֵבִיא אוֹרֵחַ!" כֵּן, אוֹרֵחַ. וְכֵן עוֹד וְעוֹד...

Soldiers came and they seized me and did not want to let me go. They rode on horses and told me to walk after them. I said: "What — can I walk after horses?" I walked on all fours — not on two legs but on hands and feet. Nu — can I walk after horses?!


## Segment 22

טְבֶרְיָה זֶה לֹא יְרוּשָׁלַיִם, זֶה עִיר קְטַנָּה, כֻּלָּם יָדְעוּ כָּל מַה שֶּׁעָבַר. וַאֲנִי הָלַכְתִּי לִירוּשָׁלַיִם וְהֵבֵאתִי בִּמְקוֹם כֶּסֶף - הֵבֵאתִי אוֹרֵחַ. זֶה מַעֲשֶׂה כָּזֶה, זֶה עוֹשֶׂה קִדּוּשׁ הַשֵּׁם. וְהַכֹּל קִדּוּשׁ הַשֵּׁם, רָקַדְתִּי, שָׂמַחְתִּי, וְהָיִיתִי בְּשִׂמְחָה - הַכֹּל עַל קִדּוּשׁ הַשֵּׁם. זֶה מִמֵּילָא, מֵעַצְמוֹ נַעֲשָׂה קִדּוּשׁ הַשֵּׁם.

They sat on the horses and showed me: "Walk like this with us."


## Segment 23

הָיָה פּוּרִים בְּלֵיל שִׁשִּׁי וְלֹא הָיָה לִי כֶּסֶף עַל שַׁבָּת. וַאֲנִי הָיִיתִי עִם כֻּלָּם בְּיַחַד, כֻּלָּם הָיוּ מִתְנַגְּדִים, הָיוּ מְצַחֲקִים עָלַי, וּבִפְרַט בְּפוּרִים, זְמַן צְחוֹק. אֲנִי הָיִיתִי שָׁמָּה וְרָצִיתִי לִשְׁתּוֹת, אֲבָל נִגְמַר כְּבָר הַיַּיִן, לֹא הָיָה. אֲבָל אֲנִי, הָרְכוּשׁ שֶׁלִּי הָיָה לִי בַּכִּיס - חֲצִי לִירָה, אָז הָיָה חֲצִי לִירָה רְכוּשׁ גָּדוֹל. אֲבָל זֶה הָיָה כָּל הַשַּׁבָּת. פּוּרִים זֶה הָיָה בְּיוֹם חֲמִישִׁי וּבְיּוֹם שִׁשִּׁי צְרִיכִים לִקְנוֹת לְשַׁבָּת. הָיָה לִי חֲצִי לִירָה בַּכִּיס בִּשְׁבִיל שַׁבָּת. אָמַרְתִּי: "אֲנִי רוֹצֶה יַיִן", אֲבָל אֵין יַיִן, כְּבָר נִגְמַר. אָז הוֹצֵאתִי הַחֲצִי לִירָה, וְעָמַדְתִּי, וְנָתַתִּי לָהֶם: "מָה, אֵין יַיִן? קַח חֲצִי לִירָה וְתָבִיא יַיִן!"

Nu — I walked with them. I thought they would wait for me — but I saw them sitting on the horses, ready to go, and I saw the horses with them and me behind them…


## Segment 24

כֻּלָּם צָחֲקוּ אֵיךְ הוֹצֵאתִי אֶת הַכֶּסֶף. הָיָה צְחוֹק...

I walked after the horses; afterwards I lost sight of them. But there was a path — so I walked on that path until I arrived at the place where animals, goats, were grazing. Oy, oy — I cannot tell everything…


## Segment 25

<div dir="rtl" lang="he">

אָז לָקְחוּ מִמֶּנִּי הַחֲצִי לִירָה וַאֲנִי חָשַׁבְתִּי: "מֶה עָשִׂיתִי, מַה יִּהְיֶה מָחָר, לֹא יִהְיֶה לִי עַל שַׁבָּת, מַה נָתַתָּ אֶת הַכֶּסֶף".

I asked them to give me water to drink — I was thirsty. They brought me a large container full of leben [fermented milk, yogurt]. Oy — that was a miracle. Without this I would have died. It was as if I needed neither food nor drink.


## Segment 26

וְהֵם לֹא קָנוּ יַיִן, הֵם הֵבִינוּ שֶׁאֲנִי שִׁכּוֹר וְהֵם יָדְעוּ שֶׁאֲנִי עָנִי, הֵם פָּחֲדוּ שֶׁזֶּה כָּל הַשַּׁבָּת שֶׁלִּי חֲצִי לִירָה, אָז הֵם לֹא קָנוּ. לֹא הָיָה יַיִן אֲבָל אֲנִי הָיִיתִי כְּבָר שִׁכּוֹר...

Afterwards an Arab came with a horse — but the Arab was poor and had no good horse; it was covered in wounds. I asked him to give me the horse. I said: "Give it to me — you will come to Tzemach. I have wealthy family there. They will give you much money if you take me." So he took me. Afterwards he regretted it.


## Segment 27

בַּבֹּקֶר הֵם נָתְנוּ לִי בַּחֲזָרָה אֶת הַנְּיָר, אֶת הַחֲצִי לִירָה שֶׁלִּי: "קַח אֶת הַחֲצִי לִירָה, אַתָּה זוֹכֵר שֶׁנָּתַתָּ חֲצִי לִירָה?" הֵם הָיוּ מִתְלוֹצְצִים, כְּמוֹ שֶׁאוֹמֵר רַבֵּנוּ הַקָּדוֹשׁ: "הָעִנְיָן שֶׁלִּי בְּבִזָּיוֹן, אֲבָל בְּכָבוֹד גָּדוֹל!"

In any case they brought me to Teveriah by way of the sea, and I came home. And there in Teveriah — those who had walked on foot told how robbers had come and taken everything they had. So they were told: "This is because you left him and did not help him." They had told my family that I had remained behind — not knowing where, alone.


## Segment 28

הֵם הִתְלוֹצְצוּ אֲבָל זֶה כָּבוֹד גָּדוֹל. הֵם רָאוּ שֶׁאֲנִי לוֹקֵחַ הַחֲצִי לִירָה בִּשְׁבִיל שַׁבָּת וְנוֹתֵן עַל יַיִן בִּשְׁבִיל פּוּרִים. זֶה הָיָה לָהֶם פֶּלֶא: "מִי עוֹשֶׂה דָּבָר כָּזֶה, אִישׁ עָנִי שֶׁכָּל הָרְכוּשׁ שֶׁלּוֹ חֲצִי לִירָה בִּשְׁבִיל שַׁבָּת וְהוּא נוֹתֵן עַל יַיִן?" וְיֵשׁ כְּבָר הַרְבֵּה שָׁנִים וַאֲנִי זוֹכֵר אֶת זֶה כְּמוֹ עַכְשָׁו, אֵיךְ שֶׁהוֹצֵאתִי מֵהַכִּיס אֶת הַחֲצִי לִירָה וְנָתַתִּי לָהֶם בְּלֵב שָׁלֵם, כֵּן: "לְכוּ תָּבִיאוּ יַיִן!"

And I had wounds on my feet — I had walked through mud. The doctors examined my feet and said: "You must not go to the mikveh. If you go to the mikveh — you will die."


## Segment 29

בַּבֹּקֶר רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל הָלַךְ וְהִצְלִיחַ וּמָצָא דִּירָה יָפָה מְאֹד, טוֹבָה גְדוֹלָה וּרְחָבָה. טוֹב, הַמַּשְׂכִּיר שָׂמַח מְאֹד וְאָמַר לוֹ: "אֲנִי רוֹצֶה עַל הַדִּירָה לִשְׁנֵי חֳדָשִׁים לְמַפְרֵעַ".

His whole body was trembling and the entire building was trembling: "And all that is made shall know that You made it." At the tomb of Rabbi Shimon he would not enter wearing shoes. It was winter — with such cold — without shoes, as in the Holy of Holies. And he wept… I cannot describe it. One might think this is a lie — such a thing is impossible. Where does the body have so many tears, so much voice — how?!


## Segment 57

אָז רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָמַר לָרַב: "אֲנִי מָצָאתִי דִּירָה, הַדִּירָה טוֹבָה מְאֹד, אֲבָל מָה עִם כֶּסֶף?"

But I saw that each time the weeping grew stronger — the tears more. On the contrary — it grew.


## Segment 58

אָז הוּא אָמַר לְרַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל: "כֶּסֶף? כַּמָּה כֶּסֶף צָרִיךְ?"

It was winter — very cold. And in the place where he stood, when he finished and left the tomb — he went out… like opening the door of a furnace, a bathhouse. Heat was coming out from the tomb. And the tomb was wet from the tears — and upon the tomb it was like a stream, like water being poured out!

רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָמַר לוֹ כָּךְ וְכָךְ שְׁקָלִים, וְהוּא פָּתַח אֶת הַמְּגִירָה וְנָתַן לוֹ אֶת כָּל הַכֶּסֶף מַה שֶּׁצָּרִיךְ עַל הַדִּירָה, "קַח שְׁנֵי חֳדָשִׁים לְמַפְרֵעַ", וְהָיָה כְּבָר דִּירָה בִּשְׁבִיל רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאִשְׁתּוֹ וְהַיְלָדִים. וְהָרַב הַזֶּה הוּא הָיָה הַמִּתְנַגֵּד הֲכִי גָּדוֹל!

And I stood there: "How does one merit this? I also want to weep — I also want it. From where does one take this?"


## Segment 60

טוֹב, בַּיִת - בָּרוּךְ הַשֵּׁם יֵשׁ, אֲבָל מִי יְשַׁלֵּם לְבַעַל-הַחֲמוֹר?

The Rosh Hashonah of Rabbi Yisroel — Mashiach would have been in this world had they not mocked and humiliated Breslov. He was always filled with concern for Israel. He always had such pain for Israel: "Where, where are the people of Israel? Where is the Torah? Where?!"


## Segment 61

כָּל הָעִיר שָׁמְעוּ הַצְּעָקוֹת שֶׁל בַּעַל-הַחֲמוֹר, אֲנִי זוֹכֵר אֶת זֶה כְּמוֹ עַכְשָׁו, צְעָקוֹת בְּקוֹלוֹת כָּאֵלּוּ, "מַה זֶּה, אֲנִי לֹא רָגִיל בְּזֶה, אֲנִי לֹא מֵבִין, לֹא שָׁמַעְתִּי דָבָר כָּזֶה, הַחֲמוֹר עוֹבֵד כָּל הַיּוֹם, הוּא צָרִיךְ לֶאֱכֹל, אֲנִי צָרִיךְ לֶאֱכֹל, מַדּוּעַ לֹא אָמַרְתֶּם לִי שֶׁאֵין לָכֶם כֶּסֶף? מַדּוּעַ נְסַעְתֶּם? אִם אֵין כֶּסֶף אָז לֹא נוֹסְעִים. מַה זֶּה, אֲנִי יָכוֹל לָתֵת בַּהֲקָפָה? מָה, אֲנִי חֲנוּת?"

How can we rest, eat and sleep — in the face of such suffering and troubles of the people of Israel?


## Segment 62

רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל - כְּבָר הָיָה לוֹ כֶּסֶף שְׁנֵי חֳדָשִׁים לְמַפְרֵעַ וְהָיָה לוֹ גַּם-כֵּן לְשַׁלֵּם בִּשְׁבִיל הַחֲמוֹרִים לֶאֱכֹל. וְהָיָה לוֹ גַּם-כֵּן דִּירָה גְּדוֹלָה, וּבָרוּךְ הַשֵּׁם הוּא לָקַח כָּל הַכֵּלִים לְהַדִּירָה בַּחֲזָרָה.

And today he is the leader of Israel! All the money, all the honor, all the greatness of Breslov is taken — and I: I am the leader!


## Segment 63

אַחַר-כָּךְ הַמַּצּוֹת. זֶה הָיָה שְׁנֵי יָמִים לִפְנֵי חַג הַפֶּסַח וְאֵין לְרַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל מַצּוֹת, מָה עוֹשִׂים?

There are many leaders — but that is not Breslov. In Breslov there are few. But this is good — "Better is a little for the righteous!" [Tehillim 37:16]


## Segment 64

אֲנִי לָמַדְתִּי בַּיְשִׁיבָה וְהִכַּרְתִּי סוֹחֵר אֶחָד שֶׁצָּרִיךְ פַּרְנָסָה, הוּא הָיָה טוֹחֵן וְהָיָה לוֹ קֶמַח כָּשֵׁר לִמְכִירָה. הוּא אָמַר לְרַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל: "כֵּן, יֵשׁ לִי קֶמַח רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל, וַאֲנִי נוֹתֵן לְךָ".

Oy — one must go to all the liars so that they will know what this is. The opponents at Rosh Hashonah had come to throw stones — then they heard our prayers of Rosh Hashonah and the melodies and the zemiros. And they left without stones. Fear fell upon them…
