Segment 1
I heard from the elder who was in Meron — Rav Valter from Kreminchuk. He had drawn close during the time of the opposition, after his bar mitzvah, and all the days of his life his central practice was chatzos [the midnight lamentation]. He was a very old man — over seventy or eighty years he had made weddings; there were children and there were weddings. And all of his face shone like an infant's — his eyes were like an infant's. And this is a wonder, for one who rises at midnight every night — that is very hard work — and he rose each night precisely at midnight.
Segment 2
I told him what was passing over me — what I was suffering in Tzfas, in Teveriah. He lived in Meron; he did not know, but he had heard beforehand about the whole matter of Rabbenu — there were many stories, there were divorces and troubles, what the people of our community had suffered. And he had heard from our community about Rabbi Yisroel Kardoner. Rabbi Yisroel was still young then. They said that if he — Rabbi Yisroel — had lived in the time of Rav Noson, he would also have been a novelty. So he said to me once, Rav Valter from Kreminchuk. Blessed be Hashem — I remember this, yes.
Segment 3
Rabbi Yisroel was a strong warrior. He suffered such torments every moment in the service of Hashem as we have no concept of whatsoever. This can only be merited through the power of Rabbenu. He was completely clean of all the desires!
Segment 4
Pride acts like a pig — pride, honor. He fled from it. He was nothing and nothingness!
Segment 5
Nu — it is impossible to tell what I saw. These are spiritual matters — without measure, without end. He merited only through his mesiras nefesh.
Segment 6
Oy vey, oy vey — what we have, what we can reach through the power of Rabbenu — it is sealed and hidden from this entire world. We must reckon: how was it that Rav Noson could live and merit to compose Likutay Tfilos, Likutay Halachos — all for our sake. He saw them all — every soul — and he prepared for each one what he needs. Rabbenu and Rav Noson!
