      "en": "It is impossible to estimate what we merit to receive from Rabbenu — for every word is literally all our life-force and the life-force of every person in the world. So we must receive this with all our soul and with all our might. There is no excuse! Our holy Rabbenu writes this because it is all our life-force. If he says: \"Chatzos!\" — it is hard, but one must devise all manner of counsel to fulfill it: to fulfill chatzos, to rise at midnight. Especially we — there are such places for us: forests and fields."

      "en": "I saw guests come from Yerushalayim with no money. Rabbi Yisroel gave them charity in cash. I did not know — Rabbi Yisroel did not tell me. He had children; he himself had no money. Hashem gave him some money. He took the money — he had small children at home who needed to eat. He did not think at all of his children. He thought only how to fulfill a commandment — he went searching for some mitzvah until he found one."

      "en": "Rabbi Yisroel spoke with this guest and understood he did not have even a single meal — had nothing at all, was poor. So Rabbi Yisroel, who had a good deal of money, gave all the money to this man so he would have something to eat. The man thought Rabbi Yisroel was a millionaire — a great wealthy man — because he gave him so much money. So this man asked me: \"Tell me — is Rabbi Yisroel wealthy? He gave me so much money. Nu — and how, if he is not rich, how can he give if he has nothing?\""

In any case this man was a scholar — he had learned in the great yeshiva in Me'ah She'arim. So he said: \"If so — I want to be a Breslover too. This is life, good life. What — only to study?\" This man wanted to be like Rabbi Yisroel."

I arrived in Meron to weep there. There were no floor-tiles in the house and no beds — the beds were niches in the walls, and this was very good for me. I would cook a pot of soup; the soup took a very long time to cook. When there would be dancing after the meal it was quite nice — it was like delicious compote.
