168 – When Greatness Comes to a Person, It Is a Sign That Trouble Will Come, G-d Forbid
When greatness (gadlut) comes to a person, it is a sign that trouble (tzarah) will come to him, G-d forbid. As it is written:
“Before destruction comes pride” (Proverbs 16:18).
And when he is lowly, it is a sign that great honor will come to him, as it is written:
“And before honor, humility” (Proverbs 15:33).
