Know that I received from you the letter that you wrote on Wednesday of Parshas Toldos.
בְּנִי חֲבִיבִי.

דַּע שֶׁקִּבַּלְתִּי מִמְּךָ הַמִּכְתָּב שֶׁכָּתַבְתָּ יוֹם ד' תּוֹלְדוֹת. כָּעֵת תֵּדַע שֶׁנּוֹדַע לִי עַל יְדֵי רַבִּי שְׁמוּאֵל וַויְינְבֶּערְג שֶׁהָאִגֶּרֶת שֶׁשָּׁלַחְתִּי לְךָ עַל יְדֵי רַבִּי חַיִּים נָתָן צֶעסִיס מִנֶּעמְרוֹב. בָּא לִידֵי זָרִים. כִּי רַבִּי חַיִּים נָתָן הַנַּ"ל שָׁכַח לִמְסֹר לְךָ הָאִגֶּרֶת וְנִזְכַּר בְּנָסְעוֹ מִטּוּלְטְשִׁין, וְשָׁלַח לְךָ עַל יְדֵי אֵיזֶה אִישׁ. וּכְבָר נִפְתְּחָה הָאִגֶּרֶת בְּבַארְטְנִיק, וְאֵינִי יוֹדֵעַ הֵיכָן הֵם. וְאִם כִּי יֵשׁ לִי צַעַר מִזֶּה, אֲבָל זֹאת נֶחָמָתִי, כִּי תְּהִלָּה לָאֵל אֵין לִי בַּמֶּה לְהִתְבַּיֵּשׁ בַּמֶּה שֶׁכָּתַבְתִּי שָׁם, כִּי לֹא דִּבַּרְתִּי שָׁם חַס וְשָׁלוֹם עַל שׁוּם אָדָם מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל, רַק הִזְכַּרְתִּי אֶתְכֶם לְאַדְבָּקָא מַחֲשַׁבְתֵּהּ בְּעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי בְּכָל יוֹם בִּכְלָלִיּוּת וּבִפְרָטִיּוּת וְכוּ'. וּתְהִלָּה לָאֵל בָּזֶה אֵין לָנוּ לְהִתְבַּיֵּשׁ כְּלָל, אַף עַל פִּי כֵן אִם הָיִיתִי יוֹדֵעַ שֶׁיָּבוֹא לִידֵי כָּךְ לֹא הָיִיתִי מוֹסֵר מִכְתָּבִי לִידֵי מְשֻׁלָּח, אַךְ בְּדִיעֲבַד בְּוַדַּאי הַכֹּל לְטוֹבָה, וּמִי יוֹדֵעַ דַּרְכֵי ה' וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו יִתְבָּרַךְ. עַתָּה תִּרְאֶה לִכְתֹּב לְרַבִּי חַיִּים נָתָן הַנַּ"ל וְתוֹדִיעַ לוֹ מַה שֶּׁעָבַר בָּזֶה, וּתְבַקְּשׁוֹ שֶׁיִּכְתֹּב לְךָ לְמִי מָסַר הַמִּכְתָּב, אוּלַי תּוּכַל לַחֲזֹר לְהַשִּׂיגָם, וַה' הַטּוֹב יַעֲשֶׂה. וּתְהִלָּה לָאֵל אֲנִי בְּקַו הַבְּרִיאָה בְּעֶזְרַת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ, וִימֵי חֲנֻכָּה מְמַשְׁמְשִׁין וּבָאִין. וּבְוַדַּאי נַעֲשֶׂה בְכָל שָׁנָה וְשָׁנָה עִנְיַן חֲנֻכַּת הַבַּיִת שֶׁגִּלָּה אֲדוֹנֵנוּ מוֹרֵנוּ וְרַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה, שֶׁכְּפִי הַסְּלַח נָא שֶׁל יוֹם הַכִּפּוּרִים וְכוּ'. כִּי הֲלֹא סוֹף כָּל סוֹף בְּוַדַּאי יִבָּנֶה בֵּית הַמִּקְדָּשׁ בִּמְהֵרָה בְּיָמֵינוּ, וְכָל בִּנְיָנוֹ יִהְיֶה עַל יְדֵי בְּחִינַת הַנַּ"ל. וְכָל שָׁנָה וְשָׁנָה נִבְנֶה מְעַט מְעַט, עַד שֶׁיִּהְיֶה נִשְׁלָם מְהֵרָה. וְעַל כֵּן בְּכָל שָׁנָה וְשָׁנָה צָרִיךְ שֶׁיִּהְיֶה לְכָל אֶחָד מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל חֵלֶק בַּחֲנֻכַּת הַבַּיִת, וְזֶה זוֹכֶה כְּפִי הַסְּלַח נָא שֶׁל יוֹם כִּפּוּר. וְגַם עַתָּה עֲדַיִן צְרִיכִין לְהִתְפַּלֵּל שֶׁיִּתְקַבֵּל הַסְּלַח נָא שֶׁל יוֹם כִּפּוּר. כִּי בְּכָל יוֹם צְרִיכִין לָשׁוּב לְהַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ, שֶׁזֶּהוּ בְּחִינַת קְדֻשַּׁת יוֹם כִּפּוּר שֶׁמַּמְשִׁיכִין בְּכָל הַשָּׁנָה כֻּלָּהּ. וּכְמוֹ כֵן זוֹכִין לַחֲנֻכַּת הַבַּיִת שֶׁהוּא בְּחִינַת הֶאָרַת בֵּן וְתַלְמִיד לְהוֹדִיעַ לְדָרֵי מַעְלָה וּלְדָרֵי מַטָּה גְּדֻלָּתוֹ וּמַלְכוּתוֹ יִתְבָּרַךְ וְכוּ'. וְהָעִקָּר הוּא לְהוֹדִיעַ בְּזֶה הָעוֹלָם הַשָּׁפֵל לְכָל הַנְּמוֹכִים מְאֹד מְאֹד, כִּי מְלֹא כָל הָאָרֶץ כְּבוֹדוֹ, בִּבְחִינַת הָקִיצוּ וְרַנְּנוּ שׁוֹכְנֵי עָפָר וְכוּ' וְכוּ'. גִּוַואלְד בְּרוּדֶער הַארְצִיקֶער [אַהָהּ! אָחִי הַנִּלְבָב], אַל יַזְקִינוּ בְּעֵינֵיכֶם דְּבָרִים נוֹרָאִים חֲדָשִׁים כָּאֵלֶּה. בֶּאֱמֶת בְּכָל יוֹם וּבְכָל עֵת הֵם חֲדָשִׁים אֶצְלִי לְגַמְרֵי, וְאֵינִי יָכוֹל לְהַסִּיחַ דַּעְתִּי מִלְּהִתְפַּלֵּא עַל נִפְלָאוֹת כָּאֵלֶּה חִדּוּשִׁים כָּאֵלֶּה, וּמֻכְרָחִים לְכָל אָדָם מְאֹד מְאֹד לְהַחֲיוֹתוֹ וּלְעוֹרְרוֹ וְלַהֲקִיצוֹ וְלַהֲקִימוֹ מִכָּל מָקוֹם שֶׁהוּא וְכוּ'. אַשְׁרֵינוּ שֶׁזָּכִינוּ לִשְׁמֹעַ כָּל זֹאת. יָתֵר מִזֶּה אִי אֶפְשָׁר לְהַאֲרִיךְ עַל פְּנֵי הַשָּׂדֶה. אַךְ לֹא יָכֹלְתִּי לְהִתְאַפֵּק מִלְּהַזְכִּירְךָ מְעַט דְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה הַמַּחֲזִיקִים הַרְבֵּה. יְהִי רָצוֹן שֶׁיַּעֲשׂוּ רֹשֶׁם בִּלְבַבְכֶם לְטוֹבָה לְקַיְּמָם בִּפְשִׁיטוּת בֶּאֱמֶת וּבִתְמִימוּת לְמַעַן יִיטַב לָכֶם לָעַד בָּזֶה וּבַבָּא לָנֶצַח.

נָתָן מִבְּרֶסְלֶב

וְתִפְרֹס בִּשְׁלוֹם כָּל אַנְשֵׁי שְׁלוֹמֵנוּ. וּבִפְרָט לְנֶכֶד אֲדוֹנֵנוּ מוֹרֵנוּ וְרַבֵּנוּ זֵכֶר צַדִּיק וְקָדוֹשׁ לִבְרָכָה הָרַבָּנִי מוֹרֵנוּ הָרַב נַחְמָן נֵרוֹ יָאִיר חַזְּקֵהוּ וְאַמְּצֵהוּ, עוֹרְרֵהוּ וַהֲקִיצֵהוּ. וְעַל יְדֵי זֶה תִּתְעוֹרֵר גַּם אַתָּה וּתְקַבְּלוּ דֵּין מִן דֵּין, וְאִם תִּרְצֶה תּוּכַל לְהַרְאוֹת לוֹ מִכְתָּבִי זֶה וּכְחָכְמָתְךָ תַּעֲשֶׂה.
I already sent you a letter on *Motzai Shabbas*. And on Sunday my letter from you arrived through the post — and it was a comfort to me. And especially what you wrote — that you spoke with Rabbi Nachman — the grandson of our Master — of blessed memory — may he live. See to strive to speak with him every time — and make yourself available to him. And from yourself you will understand how to conduct yourself in this. Nussun of Breslov. And I already wrote to you that — praised be G-d — I am in good health with the help of Hashem Yisborach — and last week there was no illness — G-d forbid. Only my old *mekhush* — but it lasted longer than usual. And in Hashem's compassion it left me before last Shabbas. May Hashem Yisborach have mercy on me and protect me from now on from this illness — and from all kinds of sickness and pain in the world — and heal me *refuat hanefesh u'refuat haguf* — healing of the soul and healing of the body. More than this there is no leisure to extend — due to the greatness of the urgency. And praised be G-d — I had guests with me for last Shabbas — and we spoke words of truth. Blessed is Hashem Who has helped us until now — and the kindnesses of Hashem — for they have not ended [Eichah 3:22] and so forth. Be strong — my son — and be strong — to give yourself life every day through the greatness of the kindnesses and wonders that Hashem Yisborach works wondrously with each and every person every single day. And believe that it was not for nothing that our Sages — of blessed memory — established for us to say every day: for Your miracles that are with us every day — and for Your wonders and Your goodnesses that are at every time [עַל נִסֶּיךָ שֶׁבְּכָל יוֹם עִמָּנוּ וְעַל נִפְלְאוֹתֶיךָ וְטוֹבוֹתֶיךָ שֶׁבְּכָל עֵת — from the *Modim* prayer of *Shemoneh Esreh*: gratitude for Hashem's miracles and wonders that accompany us every single day. Reb Nussun points out that the Sages established this daily acknowledgement for a reason — because the miracles ARE there every day for those with eyes to see them] and so forth. And whoever pays attention to this truly and with faith can see a little — and especially we — upon whom many rise against us — and the Holy One — blessed be He — saves us from their hand. And to Hashem is the hope to come out from all the distresses entirely — from distress to great expansiveness — and our enemies will see and be ashamed — swiftly and speedily. The words of your father. To all our *anshei sh'lomaynu* — abundant peace with fierce love — and especially to my dear friend — as my soul and as my heart — the distinguished veteran — the honor of our Teacher the Rabbi Nachman — may his light shine — grandson of the crown of our head — may the memory of the righteous and holy one be for a blessing [נֶכֶד עֲטֶרֶת רֹאשֵׁנוּ זֵכֶר צַדִּיק וְקָדוֹשׁ לִבְרָכָה — "the grandson of the crown of our head" — Rebbe Nachman is the crown of our head — and his grandson Rabbi Nachman is now in Breslov. Reb Nussun addresses him with extraordinary warmth and reverence as the living continuation of the Rebbe's presence] .
