(1.) Once he spoke with me — and he somewhat wanted to make me a rav [rabbinic judge] in some community. And I asked him — for I have melancholy and many anxieties regarding rulings of forbidden and permitted, and I greatly fear and dread the matter of issuing such rulings. He replied: "What is there to worry and be concerned about — since you have an authority to rely on, you have no cause to fear at all." Meaning: since there is an opinion that permits the matter and you rely on that opinion, there is no more reason to fear.
