(סה) אמר כשמתיגע האדם בתפלתו ואינו יכול להתפלל אזי מכרח לומר הדבורים בפשיטות גמור האל הגדול הגבור והנורא בפשיטות גמור בלי חיות והתלהבות כלל, ויאמר כך כמה תבות וענינים, ואם יזכה יוכל להתעורר אחר כך להתלהבות גדול על ידי זה. על כן אצל אנשים פשוטים כשרוצים להתפלל בכונת הלב, צריכין להתמהמה בתפלתם כי נעשה אצלם כמה ענינים בתפלה כמה עליות וירידות בתפלה אחת. כי בתחלה מתיגע עצמו להתפלל בכונה ולפעמים או על פי רב אינו יכול להתפלל בכונה ואז מכרח לומר בפשיטות לגמרי האל הגדול הגבור והנורא וכיוצא בזה. ואחר כך חוזר ומתלהב לפעמים ויכול להיות נעשה כך כמה פעמים בתפלה אחת. ואמר אז לפנינו אלו הדבורים האל הגדול הגבור והנורא כמו מי שמדבר בחלישות כח בקרירות בלי התלהבות כלל, ואף על פי כן פנימיות כונתו קשורה בהדבורים. ואי אפשר לציר זאת בכתב, אך המשכיל יכול להבין עצות מזה בתפלתו כשאין יכולים להתפלל. ענה ואמר ואם אין אתה יכול להתפלל כלל, אם תזכה תאמר איזה דבור הגון באמת בתחנות ובקשות אחרות, ואם גם זה לא תזכה מה לעשות, אף על פי כן קוה אל ה':
(65.) He said: "When a person labors in his prayer and cannot pray — he must then simply say the words in complete simplicity: 'The great, mighty, and awesome G-d' — in complete simplicity, without any vitality or enthusiasm at all. And one should say this way several words and matters. And if one merits, one may afterwards be awakened to great enthusiasm through this." Therefore for simple people who want to pray with heartfelt concentration — they must take their time in prayer. For with them several things occur in prayer — several ascents and descents in one prayer. For it is impossible to depict this in writing — but the enlightened one can understand advice from this in his prayer when he cannot pray. He answered and said: And if you cannot pray at all — if you merit, say some proper word in truth in supplications and other requests. And if you also cannot merit that — what to do? Even so, hope to Hashem.
