(סז) ספר לי חברי רבי נפתלי שפעם אחת ספר עמו ממצות תפלין, והפליג מאד בקדשת התפלין, ואמר שראוי לאדם להתלהב מאד בהנחת תפלין, כי תפלין הם קדושים ונוראים מאד, וראוי שיפל על האדם פחד ורעדה גדולה ואימה ויראה עצומה כשרוצה להניח תפלין אשר קדשתם שגבה וגבהה מאד, והאריך בזה הרבה. וגם אנכי הבנתי מדבריו עצם הפלגת נוראות קדשת התפלין. ואמר שכמה וכמה תורות שלו רבות מאד כלם נאמרו על מצוות תפלין, אף על פי שלא נזכר שם תפלין כלל אף על פי כן הם נאמרו על ענין תפלין. והם בחצוצרות בסימן ה. אנכי ה' אלקיך בסימן ד' ומי האיש החפץ חיים בסימן ל"ג, ואשרי העם יודעי תרועה סימן ל"ה, ומרכבות פרעה בסימן ל"ח כלם בלקוטי הראשון. ועוד מאמרים רבים אשר נאמרו באותן הזמנים כלם נאמרו על תפלין. ומזה יוכל לשער מעט עד היכן גדלו ושגבו קדשת התפלין:
(67.) My friend Rabbi Naftali told me that once he spoke with him about the mitzvah of tefillin — and he greatly extolled the holiness of tefillin. And he said that a person should be greatly inflamed in putting on tefillin — for tefillin are very holy and awesome. And it is fitting that great fear and trembling, awe and powerful reverence should fall upon a person when he wants to put on tefillin — whose holiness is very exalted and elevated. And he elaborated greatly on this. And I too understood from his words the immensity of the exaltedness of the awesome holiness of tefillin.
