(פג) איש אחד עמד לפניו שהיה עוסק ללמד בספרי קבלה, ובאמת לא היה ראוי ללמד קבלה. והוכיח אותו שלא ילמד קבלה, ואמר לו קבלה בגימטריא נואף. ושוב שמעתי מאחד, שהיה מדבר עם איש אחד, והיה אותו האיש קובל לפניו שאין לו לב הינו שאין לו התעוררות הלב לתפלה ועבודה. השיב לו רבנו זכרונו לברכה שזהו בשביל שלומד קבלה, כי "נאף אשה חסר לב" (משלי ו) וקבלה בגימטריא נואף. וכל זה למי שאין ראוי לזה, אבל לכמה אנשים הזהיר בעצמו שילמדו קבלה וצריכין להתפלל להשם יתברך שיוליכו בדרך האמת אם ללמד קבלה ואם לחדל:
(83.) One person stood before him who was engaging in studying Kabbalah books — and he was in truth not worthy of studying Kabbalah. And he rebuked him that he should not study Kabbalah. And he said: "Kabbalah in gematria equals noef [adulterer]." And I also heard from another person who was speaking with someone — and that person was complaining before him that he has no heart — meaning he has no heartfelt awakening for prayer and service. Rabbainu o.b.m. replied that this is because he studies Kabbalah — for "an adulterer..." [Proverbs].
