Once I was complaining before him about my matters — and I was saying before him by way of complaint: "I am weary of crying, my throat is parched, my eyes fail while I wait for my G-d" [Psalms 69]. And he raised his hands slightly and said in gentle language: "If so — what is to be done?" (Meaning certainly it is forbidden to question His ways, may He be blessed, and certainly G-d is righteous.) Afterwards he answered and said to me: "Is it not so that if King David, upon him be peace, said 'I am weary of crying, my throat is parched' — it was literally as it appears — meaning he had truly cried..."
