Letter 215

Even though "the many mighty waters — the breakers of the sea" [Psalms 93:4] — overpower each and every person so greatly — so very much — in the aspect of "all Your breakers and Your waves have passed over me" [Psalms 42:8] — even so — from all of them: "Hashem on high is mighty" [Psalms 93:4]. And forever His hand is uppermost. And He will complete everything as He desires — and bring everything to the true and eternal good purpose. For He has already preceded and given Israel the holiness of the light of the Tzadik — through whom His G-dliness Yisburach will be revealed to all eyes — and everything will always be repaired.

Even in these latter generations — in which the concealment within concealment has intensified without end — the essential repair is through the great Tzadik — who is able to arouse the good points within Israel. Even in the worst ones — full of transgressions — even in them the Tzadik searches and finds within them good points. Until he implants within them that even they will gladden their souls. And through this — they are taken out from transgressions and blemishes and are returned in teshuvah.

The Tzadik arouses the mercy of Hashem Yisburach — to look only upon the good points within Israel — and not to look upon our evil at all. Until immense mercy enters into our hearts — until joy is drawn upon us. Through which the essential repair of teshuvah comes about.

The klipa of Haman-Amalek lies in ambush — to entirely uproot the person from both worlds — Heaven forbid, Heaven forbid. And the entire war of Amalek — may his name be blotted out — is that he extends himself in length and breadth — with great overpowering and immense stratagems — to multiply dispute against the true Tzadik — the mighty possessor of great power. Through implanting many difficulties into the heart against him — until through this they become distanced from him. And this is the worst of all.

One must draw from the Tzadik wisdom and great contemplation — until one merits to always remain at one's post all the days of his life. And not let himself fall ever. For even though the essential thing is total sincerity and simplicity — even so — this true sincerity is impossible to receive except through diligently and greatly attending at the doorways of the house of study of the true Tzadik — who is a very wise and discerning one.

Sometimes a person can fall — Heaven forbid — specifically through the truth. For he knows within himself that in truth he has greatly corrupted — and even now he is as he is. And therefore the adversary entices him — through his own truth — to push him away entirely, Heaven forbid. As has been heard explicitly from several people — who left their world entirely through this truth.

But the true Tzadik has already revealed to us — that the truth of truth is not so. For even in the nethermost depths one is close to Hashem Yisburach — and there is no despair in the world. And even though certainly one must guard oneself from sin — and even from the slightest blemish — even so — even if one has stumbled as he has stumbled — even thousands and tens of thousands of times — even so at every moment the kindnesses of Hashem are not exhausted, etc. And one can at every moment bring himself close to Hashem Yisburach — from every place where he may be. For Hashem is very great — and to His greatness there is no reckoning, etc. And there is a matter that everything be transformed for good. And this is the essential truth of truth.

Also — for all the dispute against the Tzadik — both the dispute of those called Chassidim and the worthy ones — and especially the dispute of the groups of investigators who tend to the ways of heresy and apostasy — all of it is through their truth. For the truth has become divided into flocks — and each one says that the truth is on his side. And therefore — one who looks sometimes at the books of the investigators will see that a word of truth never departs from their mouths — and they cry out only truth. Woe to them and to their counterfeit truth! And therefore the truth itself needs guarding. And all of this is through the power of the true Tzadik and his disciples — who are the aspect of Joshua. Through whom is the essential bringing in and fulfillment of the Torah within Israel — and through them the drawing down of the paths of teshuvah.
