Letter 68

Israel is a holy nation — they need a true leader who will have great mercy upon them. And the essential mercy is to illuminate the daas within them — and to take them out from sins that come through the spirit of foolishness. For this is the essential mercy. And even when the soul departs on high — the essential wholeness of the soul is that it illuminate below as well. And therefore one must strive to leave one's daas behind in this world — so that his daas illuminate within them. And he must have the aspect of all… so that he can illuminate the illumination of daas in those who dwell above and those who dwell below.

For he must show to the great ones — the aspect of those who dwell above — that they still know nothing at all of His knowledge Yisburach — in the aspect of "Where is the place of His glory?" [Kedushah]. And to the opposite — those who dwell below — who are the aspect of people dwelling in the very lowly and lowest level (greatly) — in the very ultimate of concealment — greatly — Heaven forbid. He must arouse them and awaken them not to despair, Heaven forbid. And to reveal to them that Hashem Yisburach is in every place — for even there Hashem Yisburach is found — with them, beside them and very close to them. For "the whole earth is full of His glory" [Isaiah 6:3]. (And they should not err that they are most distant.)
