ראש בני ישראל

Initial Letters Spell “Rabbi”

ראש בני ישראל

ראש בני ישראל (שמות ל) ראשי תבות רבי. ולהפך רשעים בחשך ידמו (שמואל א ב) ראשי תבות רבי:

1

Initial Letters Spell “Rabbi” “Heads of the children of Israel” (Exodus 30:12 – roash binay Yisroel) — the initial letters ר-ב-י spell רבי ("Rabbi"- This alludes to spiritual leadership and elevated status). In contrast: “The wicked shall be silenced in darkness” (1 Samuel 2:9 – rishu-im bachoashech yidumoo) — here too, the initial letters spell ר-ב-י ("Rabbi"), but they represent the opposite: the downfall of one who assumes leadership unworthily or through arrogance. [Lesson: The same title — “Rabbi” — may be formed from verses referring to righteous leadership or to the downfall of the wicked. This teaches us to look beyond titles and assess true spiritual character.]
