When two people are divided between them about some matter
כששני אנשים מחלקים ביניהם על איזה ענין וכשיבוא השלישי אף שאינו יודע כלל מענינם, אזי יסכים עם אחד יותר מעם חברו, זה מחמת שהאחד סמוך לשרשו יותר מחברו, כי בודאי אי אפשר שיהיו שוים לו כאחד, כי אין שני אנשים שוין, ואם כן בודאי אחד סמוך יותר, ומזה בא שהוא מסכים עם זה, והבן:
238 - When two people are divided between them about some matter When two people are divided between them about some matter [i.e., they disagree or argue], and when the third comes, even though he does not know at all about their matter, then he will agree with one more than with his fellow. This is because the one is closer to his root [spiritual soul-root or essence] more than his fellow, because certainly it is impossible that they will be equal to him as one, because there are no two people equal [in their spiritual makeup]. And if so, certainly one is closer. And from this comes that he agrees with this one.
