And I ask of you to inform me if there was any letter from your co-parent-in-law, may his candle shine, or any other news — and give life to my soul. Also: please give on account of my sister the sum of one and a half zibeners — to distribute to the Anash as follows:

And formally present the money to my account [ותציג המעות לחשבוני — "and present and set the money to my account" — v'satzeg — from yatzeg — to place, to present, to formally set before; not merely a casual note but a formal presentation and setting of the expenditure to the writer's account]. And also if you are able to send me four rats of pasulis — but only if the rat costs no more than five of your groshen — for I still need to pay additional cart-hire for each rat. And perhaps you don't even have pasulis available.

On both this and that there is no news — only life and peace. And may Hashem Yisbarach help us — that the point which we drew upon ourselves at the time of the holy gathering of Rabbainu ז"ל on Rosh Hashana — may it awaken within us and may they operate and produce their effects within us [ויפעלו בנו — "and may they act and operate within us" — the plural: the awakened sparks and forces drawn in at Rosh Hashana should operate in their multiple effects within us; not merely a single act but multiple spiritual operations working from within] — to merit complete repentance — we and all our fellowship.

On both this and that there is no news [זו"ז חדשות אין — "this and this, there is no news" — zu u'zu — "this and this, on both counts, in both directions"; the writer means: on both the matters you might wonder about, there is nothing new to report] — only life and peace and joy — נאר פריליך זיין — only be joyful — for in worries nothing is accomplished at all.
