I wrote to you two letters — one I sent with the woman — the mother-in-law of Reb Avraham Hirsh, may his candle shine — and one I sent to you with the son-in-law of the scribe Reb Yisroel Avraham, may his candle shine. And surely they reached your hand. And in the end — there is no receipt and no reply to the letters. And because of this I am becoming sluggish about writing to you.

And we must at all times arouse each person his companion — as Rabbainu ז"ל and his holy disciple desired — sometimes face to face and sometimes through the written word — not to abandon the business of our partnership — to be included in each other at all times — both in thought and in speech and in deed. In our business — blessed be G-d — there is always spirit [רוח — spirit, wind, vitality; the business of Rabbainu ז"ל's teachings always has fresh spirit and vitality; the market-price never falls — it only rises with each passing day] — and the market-price never falls — only every day it grows and grows — and there is another spirit — and more.

And because I studied tonight the Laws of the Blessing on Fragrances [הלכות ברכת הריח — Laws of the Blessing on Fragrances — from Likutay Halachos of Reb Nosson ז"ל; a law connecting the blessing recited on pleasant fragrances to deep spiritual teachings of Rabbainu ז"ל] , law 4 — based on the Torah Tekah the third [Tekah Gimmel — the third Torah discourse beginning with the word Tekah — "sound" — a discourse of Rabbainu ז"ל about the shofar-blowing and its spiritual significance] — I do not know why we are not dancing in the streets and the marketplaces. And if you were here tonight — I would kiss you from sole to crown [מכף רגל ועד ראש — "from the sole of the foot to the crown of the head" — the biblical phrase from Isaiah 1:6 — "from the sole of the foot to the head — there is no soundness in it"; here applied positively: I would embrace and honor every part of you, from sole to crown, in joy and love] — that you merited to be called by the name of Rabbainu ז"ל and his holy disciple. And because of this — the 974 generations pursue you. And look in this law from letter 35 until letter 38 — and you will see how many times in one day we must rejoice.
