A letter has arrived to me from Reb Kalman, may his candle shine, from Vilna. And the letter is enclosed here — for he is there in mortal danger — and he needs intercession [מליצה — melitzah — intercession, advocacy — a formal letter of advocacy and recommendation on behalf of someone in legal or political danger; a character-witness document or letter of defense] from your encampment — from the judges and from other important people. And also from your encampment — from the Rabbi Reb Shmuel HaElir, may his candle shine, and may he shine. Therefore here I have done what is proper and fitting — and therefore I ask of your honor — for the sake of the commandment — and may your honor forgive — to receive the intercession from the Rabbi the Gaon Reb Shmuel HaElir — to the Rabbi the Gaon Reb Chaim Eliezer Waks — the head of the rabbinical court of the holy community of Warsaw. [Reb Chaim Eliezer Waks ז"ל — the author of Nefesh Chayah — a prominent Gaon who served as head of the rabbinical court of Warsaw; a letter of intercession from the Tzfas rabbinate addressed to him could carry significant weight in Reb Kalman's case] And the letter from Reb Kalman — I am sending here — to show to the Rabbi Reb Shmuel HaElir, may his candle shine. And when Hashem Yisbarach helps you — and you receive a letter from the above-mentioned Rabbi — deliver it into the hand of our beloved Reb Nussun son of Reb Hirsh, may his candle shine. And he will send it by post to the Rabbi Reb Chaim Eliezer Waks — to Warsaw. And the postal money will be on my account.

And may Hashem Yisbarach help us — to complete the Omer count — and to purify us and sanctify us — so that we can receive the fulfillment of the Torah anew — in the merit of Rabbainu ז"ל and his holy disciple — who engage in this every year and every year — in different manners — to instill in us the fulfillment of the Torah.
