צ TZADI — Numerical Value: 90 | The letter of the righteous one (tzadik) | 15 source entries Hebrew EntryEnglish Translation & ExplanationSource צ = יוד + נון Shape / Form The letter Tzadi (צ) is formed by a Yud and a Nun joined together (יוד ונון). [Cross-reference from Section 10.] The righteous one carries the divine point (Yud) riding upon the extended form (Nun, = 50, the fifty gates of understanding). [The Tzadi visually shows a Nun with a Yud bent over and resting upon it. The tzadik is one who bears the divine point of holiness (Yud) while remaining grounded in the world (Nun). The bent Yud alludes to the tzadik who bows himself in humility.] Likutay Mooharan 67:4 צבאות — אות / בצבא Notarikon The Divine Name Tzvaos (צבאות, "Hosts / Armies") — the word אות (os, "letter / sign") is contained within it: tzeva-os contains the word os. Every letter is an army-sign of G-d. [Cross-reference from Section 1.] Likutay Mooharan 31:5 צבאות + כולל — הנעלם של שדי Gematria Tzvaos (צבאות = 499) together with the kollel (500) = the gematria of the hidden spelling (hane'elam) of the Divine Name Sha-dai (שדי). The Name of Hosts conceals within it the Name that sustains all creation. Likutay Mooharan II:5; 9 צִבֻּר Roshay Saveivos Tzibur (צִבֻּר, "congregation / community") — its letters are the first letters of צ׳דיקים ב׳ינונים ר׳שעים: "the righteous, the intermediate, and the wicked" — the three categories of souls that comprise every community. And conversely: those three words' first letters spell tzibur. A true community contains all three. [The word for "congregation" encodes the full spectrum of the human community — righteous, intermediate, and wicked. No community consists only of the perfectly righteous; a true tzibur holds all three within it, and it is precisely this wholeness that gives communal prayer its power.] Likutay Mooharan 55:5 צדקה ה' פעמים Notarikon Tzedakah (צדקה, "charity / righteousness") is mentioned five times in the Torah, corresponding to the five chassadim (acts of lovingkindness). [Cross-reference from Section 5.] Likutay Mooharan 67:5 צ'דקה ת'ציל מ'מות — מצת Roshay Saveivos The first letters of "charity saves from death" (צ׳דקה ת׳ציל מ׳מות) [Proverbs 10:2] spell מצת (matzas, "he drew out / sucked"). [Cross-reference from Section 13.] Charity literally draws life out from the threat of death. Likutay Mooharan 201 צוּ רפואה — שלחן Gematria Tzu refuah (צוּ רפואה, "command healing!" — a phrase of urgent prayer for healing) = gematria of שלחן (shulchan, "table" = 388). Commanded healing and the table share a gematria — the table at which one eats is itself an altar of healing. Chayay Mooharan §476 צום — ו'כתותי מ'פניו צ'ריו Roshay Saveivos Tzom (צום, "fast") — first letters of ו׳כתותי מ׳פניו צ׳ריו: "I will crush his enemies before him". [Cross-reference from Section 6.] Likutay Mooharan 57:6 צ'ור י'לדך ת'שי / צ'עקתינו י'ודע ת'עלומות Roshay Saveivos (double) The first letters of "the Rock that bore you, you have forgotten" (צ׳ור י׳לדך ת׳שי) [Deuteronomy 32:18] spell צ"ית — the same letters as the first letters of צ׳עקתינו י׳ודע ת׳עלומות: "our cry, He who knows hidden things" [Psalms 44:22]. Forgetting the Rock and the cry that He hears are encoded in the same three letters — forgetting and crying out are two sides of the same moment. [When we forget the Rock that bore us, we cry out — and the cry reaches the One who knows all hidden things. The same first letters encode both the forgetting and the cry: the fall and the reaching-out are inseparable.] Likutay Mooharan 21:7 צורה / צרה Notarikon Tzurah (צורה, "form / shape") is an expression of tzarah (צרה, "distress / trouble"). And conversely: tzarah = tzurah. Form and distress share their root — every form is a kind of constraint, every distress contains a hidden shape. [Both words come from the same root צ-ר. Form (tzurah) imposes limitation upon the infinite — a kind of distress of the divine. And distress (tzarah) is always a form that is waiting to be transcended. The mystic sees through every form of suffering to its hidden divine shape.] Likutay Mooharan 170 צמר — מצר Tziroof Tzemer (צמר, "wool") — its letters are a permutation of מצר (metzar, "distress / narrow strait"). [Cross-reference from Section 13.] The warmth of wool is hidden within the straits of suffering. Likutay Mooharan 29:10 צפרדע — צִפֹּר דעה Notarikon Tzfardea (צפרדע, "frog" — the second plague of Egypt) is read as צִפֹּר דעה (tzipor de'ah, "bird of knowledge / the knowing bird"). The frog that filled Egypt with its cry is the bird of knowledge — the voice that knows and proclaims the hidden. [The frog's incessant croaking — filling every space in Egypt — is decoded as the "knowing bird." The plague of frogs was not mere noise but a proclamation of divine knowledge that could not be silenced. The creature that cries unceasingly from the waters encodes the concept of knowing speech.] Likutay Mooharan 3; 15:5 [Translator's Summary — Section 18, Tzadi — 15 source entries fully covered] The Tzadi — the letter of the righteous one — yields teachings befitting its name. The shape of the letter itself shows the Yud (divine point) riding upon the Nun (50 gates) — the tzadik bears holiness within the world. The congregation (tzibur) as an acronym of righteous, intermediate, and wicked. Form (tzurah) as an expression of distress (tzarah). And the frog of the second plague decoded as the "knowing bird" — the voice of divine knowledge that fills every space.
