There — Letter Gimmel — "in the aspect of: 'his left hand under my head.'" See Midrash Rabbah Song of Songs, Ch. 2: "'his left hand under my head' — this is tzitzis — 'and his right hand embraces me' — these are tefillin." Said at the beginning of the year [5]563. And there is a complete and wondrous account of how this discourse was said — in the aspect of: "the performers of His word" — and thereafter: "to hear the voice of His word." For Rabbi Nosson — of blessed memory — fulfilled this matter first from his own understanding. And on that very day he came to Rabbainu — and he [Rabbainu], with his awesome and wondrous holy spirit, perceived — and revealed before him this wondrous matter.
