Beginner: A person must fear and dread honor — public recognition, prestige, and position — because honor is a grave spiritual danger that jeopardizes one's very life. The verse 'Who is the King of honor?' (Psalms 24:10) reveals that 'honor' (kavod) has the quality of royalty and judgment. Honor represents regal authority — and all those who hold authority render judgment, and all others scrutinize and judge them in turn. The person who seeks or accepts honor becomes exposed to divine scrutiny of all his deeds, as if standing before a royal court where nothing is hidden. This intense scrutiny can be spiritually fatal. Furthermore, the pursuit of honor is a form of arrogance — the person who chases honor is placing himself in the role of king, claiming the space that belongs only to God. Therefore, the spiritually aware person actively flees from honor rather than pursuing it. Intermediate: Must fear and dread honor = grave spiritual danger. Teh 24:10: 'King of honor' — honor = regal authority + judgment. Accepting honor = exposed to divine scrutiny of all deeds = spiritually dangerous. Pursuit of honor = arrogance = claiming space belonging only to God. Spiritually aware person actively flees honor.
