Beginner: Opening verse: 'The testimony of God is faithful, making wise the simple' (Psalms 19:8). The teaching presents a profound question: the Torah is referred to as a 'woman' in certain mystical sources (and in the sense of the divine feminine aspect of wisdom). The question is: how can the Torah, called a 'woman,' make the simple wise? The answer lies in understanding what it means for wisdom to be 'faithful' (ne'emanah). Faithful wisdom is not abstract intellectual knowledge that detaches a person from reality, but a living, trustworthy, emotionally resonant wisdom — the kind that a devoted woman embodies in her relationship with her household. When Torah is received in this relational, faithful mode — as a living reality one is in relationship with, not merely a system of rules to master — it genuinely transforms and elevates even the simple person. The simple person does not need to be a scholar; he needs to be in faithful relationship with Torah. Intermediate: Teh 19:8: 'Testimony of Hashem = faithful, making wise the simple.' Torah called 'woman.' Question: how does a 'woman' make simple wise? Answer: 'faithful' (ne'emanah) = living relational wisdom, not abstract intellect. Torah received as living relationship (faithful mode) genuinely transforms simple person. Simple person needs faithful relationship with Torah, not scholarship.
