וְהִנֵּה בְּעֵת שֶׁעָמַדְנוּ שָׁם אֵצֶל הָעִיר סָאקֶיס הַנִּזְכֶּרֶת לְעֵיל, אָמַר לָנוּ הַקַּפִּיטַאן שֶׁהוּא יַעֲמד שָׁם עַד יוֹם שֵׁנִי שֶׁהוּא ראשׁ הַשָּׁנָה גַּם רָצָה לְקַבֵּל אַרְבָּעִים יִשְׁמְעֵאלִים עַל הַסְּפִינָה וּבְתוֹכָם אֲדוֹן פַּאשִׁי, וּמֵחֲמַת זֶה הֵצֵר לָנוּ יְשִׁיבָתֵנוּ בְּהָאַמְבַּר שֶׁיָּשַׁבְנוּ שָׁם בִּתְחִלָּה בְּהַרְחָבָה וְעַתָּה כְּשֶׁרָצָה לִקַּח הַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִים הִכְנִיס הַמְּחִצָּה הַמַּפֶסֶקֶת הַרְבֵּה לְתוֹךְ גְּבוּלֵנוּ וְעַל יְדֵי זֶה הָיָה צַר לָנוּ הַמָּקוֹם וְנַעֲשָׂה כַּמָּה מַחֲלקֶת בֵּין אַנְשֵׁי הַסְּפִינָה מֵחֲמַת דּחַק הַמָּקוֹם שֶׁהֻצְרְכוּ רֻבָּם לְשַׁנּוֹת מְקוֹמָם גַּם הָיָה לָנוּ צַעַר מַה נַּעֲשֶׂה בְּראשׁ הַשָּׁנָה אֵיךְ נוּכַל לְהִתְפַּלֵּל וְלִתְקעַ שׁוֹפָר בֵּין הַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִים שֶׁדַּרְכָּם לְהַקְפִּיד קְפִידוֹת הַרְבֵּה מְאד, גַּם שְׁאָרֵי יִסּוּרִים שֶׁהָיוּ מַגִּיעִים לָנוּ חַס וְשָׁלוֹם אִם הָיוּ עַל הַסְּפִינָה אֲבָל הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ רִחֵם עָלֵינוּ וּבִלְבֵּל הָעֵסֶק שֶׁלָּהֶם וְסִבֵּב סִבּוֹת לְטוֹבָה עַד אֲשֶׁר לְבַסּוֹף לא קִבֵּל אֶחָד מֵהֶם כְּלָל:
On Thursday — the ship moved from Rhodes. And also there were no favorable winds. On Sunday — Parshas Tavo — after midday — there was a stormy wind that was not going in our direction. And the days of Rosh Hashonah and Yom Kippur were drawing near to come. May Hashem Blessed be He lead us quickly in peace. On this day — a ship came from Cyprus and drew close to us. And there were three Israelites from Tzfas on it. And we spoke with them from afar. And their names were Rabbi Itzik from Tornopol and Rabbi Tzvi from the Perushim.
