בְּאוֹתוֹ הַקַּיִץ הַנַּ"ל נִפְטַר אֶצְלִי בְּנִי מֵאִיר זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה שֶׁנּוֹלַד בְּחֶשְׁוָן תקס"א כַּנַּ"ל, הַמָּקוֹם יְנַחֲמֵנִי בְּתוֹךְ אֲבֵלֵי צִיּוֹן וִירוּשָׁלַיִם
And behold, Hashem Blessed be He helped me — I returned to my strength, and likewise my wife and my children — may they live. Afterward, after Purim, I traveled to Nemirov. My intention was to see my companion Rabbi Naftali — for I knew that Rabbainu zichrono livracha had already set out on the journey mentioned above. For my companion Rabbi Naftali would write to me by post [pahst — through the mail] at every occasion with everything that had transpired here. But I traveled to Nemirov in order to speak with my companion Rabbi Naftali — to hear from him in person the news he had merited to hear during those times when I had not been privileged to be with him zichrono livracha.
בַּקַּיִץ הַנַּ"ל שָׁלַח אוֹתִי רַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה לְבַּרְדִּיטְשׁוֹב לִגְבּוֹת לוֹ חוֹב מִגִּיסוֹ וְנָסַעְתִּי בַּקַּיִץ הַנַּ"ל וְאַחַר כָּךְ בַּחֹרֶף שֶׁלְּאַחֲרָיו עַד חֲמִשָּׁה פְּעָמִים עַד שֶׁגָּבִיתִי הַחוֹב בָּרוּךְ הַשֵּׁם אֲבָל עוֹד כַּמָּה דְּבָרִים טוֹבִים צָמְחוּ עַל יְדֵי זֶה שֶׁהָלַכְתִּי בִּשְׁלִיחוּתוֹ לְבַּרְדִּיטְשׁוֹב וְגַם לְעִנְיַן הַדְפָּסַת סִפְרוֹ לִקּוּטֵי מוֹהֲרַ"ן תִּנְיָנָא הָיָה תּוֹעֶלֶת גָּדוֹל מַה שֶּׁהָיִיתִי בִּתְחִלָּה בְּבַּרְדִּיטְשׁוֹב וּקְצָת מִזֶּה יִתְבָּאֵר לְקַמָּן אִם יִרְצֶה הַשֵּׁם
And I came to Nemirov, and from Hashem it came to be that I was detained there until after Pesach. And during that time I heard from Rabbi Naftali — may his light shine — several stories that he had heard from his holy mouth, which had not yet been written down — for there had been no one to write them. And I heard them from my companion mentioned above and wrote them in the book. (But the other stories I heard from the holy mouth of Rabbainu zichrono livracha himself.)
בַּקַּיִץ הַנַּ"ל נָסְעָה בִּתּוֹ מָרַת מִרְיָם זִכְרוֹנָהּ לִבְרָכָה לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי הָיְתָה כַּלָּתוֹ שֶׁל הַגָּאוֹן מִוָּואלְטְשִׁיסְק וּבַעְלָהּ מוֹרֵנוּ הָרַב פִּינְחָס זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה כְּבָר נָסַע עִם אָבִיו הַגָּאוֹן הַנַּ"ל לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּקַיִץ תקס"ה, וְהִיא נִשְׁאֲרָה כָּאן כִּי לא אָבָה רַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה לְשָׁלְחָהּ לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל עִם בַּעְלָהּ אָז וְגַם עַתָּה לא רָצָה רַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה לְשָׁלְחָהּ לְשָׁם וְהָיָה קָרוֹב שֶׁתְּקַבֵּל גֵּט פִּטּוּרִין מִבַּעְלָהּ אַךְ אַחַר כָּךְ סִבֵּב הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ שֶׁהִיא בְּעַצְמָהּ נִתְרַצְּתָה לִנְסֹעַ לְאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְנָסְעָה בְּקַיִץ תקס"ט הַנַּ"ל עִם גִּיסֶיהָ בְּנֵי הָרַב מִוָּואלְטְשִׁיסְק וְרַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה לִוָּה אוֹתָהּ בְּעַצְמוֹ עַד רָחוֹק מֵהָעִיר וְהָלַךְ עַד חוּץ לְהָעִיר רַגְלִי וְלא רָצָה לֵישֵׁב עַל הָעֲגָלָה וְאָמַר שֶׁלְּאֶרֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵל צְרִיכִין לָלֶכֶת רַגְלִי וְכָל בְּנֵי הָעִיר הָלְכוּ עִמּוֹ לְלַוּוֹתָהּ בְּשִׂמְחָה וּמִשְׁתֶּה וְנִשְׁמַע אָז מִפִּיו הַקָּדוֹשׁ דְּבָרִים נִפְלָאִים אַךְ אֲנִי לא זָכִיתִי לִהְיוֹת בְּכָל זֶה כִּי הָיִיתִי בִּשְׁלִיחוּתוֹ לְבַּרְדִּיטְשׁוֹב:
Blessed be Hashem who placed it in my mind to travel to Nemirov then — for through this I saved these stories. For had I not come then, they would not have been written down at all and would have been lost from the world. And now they have already revived several souls of Israel. And they are still reviving many souls. And they are destined to revive all of Israel and all those who come into the world — when the truth of the holiness of his greatness is revealed in the world speedily, with the help of Hashem Blessed be He. Blessed be Hashem who has helped me until now.
