זֶה הָאִגֶּרֶת כָּתַב אֲדוֹנֵנוּ מוֹרֵנוּ וְרַבֵּנוּ זַ"ל מֵאוֹסְטְרְהָא לִכְלַל אַנְשֵׁי שְׁלוֹמֵנוּ שֶׁיִּתְפַּלְּלוּ עֲבוּרוֹ, כִּי הָיָה לוֹ אָז מֵחוּשׁ וְחוֹלַאַת גָּדוֹל, וּבִקֵּשׁ מְאֹד שֶׁיִּתְפַּלְּלוּ עֲבוּרוֹ, וְאַחַר כָּךְ שָׁב לְאֵיתָנוֹ. וּבְבוֹאוֹ לְבֵיתוֹ אָמַר שֶׁהֵם פָּעֲלוּ בִּתְפִלָּתָם שֶׁשָּׁב לְאֵיתָנוֹ מֵהַחוֹלַאַת הַנַּ"ל
This letter was written by our Master, Teacher, and Rabbi — Moharán — of blessed memory, from Ostroha, to the general community of his followers, requesting that they pray on his behalf, for at that time he was suffering a grievous physical ailment. He implored them greatly to pray for him — and afterward he recovered. Upon returning home he declared that it was their prayers that had restored him from the above-mentioned illness. To my good and dear friends — my beloved and pleasant companions and partners.
צוּ מַיְינֶע גוּטֶע פְרַיְינְד. מַיְינֶע לִיבֶּע פְרַיְינְד [אֶל יְדִידַי הַטּוֹבִים וְהָאֲהוּבִים] הַשֻּׁתָּפִים הַנֶּאֱהָבִים וְהַנְּעִימִים.
I beg you most earnestly, most earnestly, that you give to my wife one hundred adumim (red coins). For I am in great need of much money for expenses — the expenses here are very great — as the bearer of this letter will tell you. Not doubled, mind you — but four times as much; for I have not even a single perutah (the smallest coin).
אִיךְ בֶּעט אַיְיךְ זֵייעֶר זֵייעֶר אַז אִיר זָאלְט גֶּעבִּין לְזוּגָתִי מֵאָה אֲדֻמִּים. וָוארִים אִיךְ בְּדַארְף פִיל הָאבִּין אוֹיף הוֹצָאוֹת, דִּי הוֹצָאוֹת זֶענֶין בְּכַּאן זֵייעֶר גְּרוֹיס, [אַנִי מְבַקֵּשׁ מִכֶּם מְאֹד מְאֹד שֶׁתִּתְּנוּ לְזוּגָתִי מֵאָה אֲדוּמִים, בִּגְלָל שֶׁאֲנִי צָרִיךְ הַרְבֵּה עַל הוֹצָאוֹת, וְהַהוֹצָאוֹת כַּאן מְאֹד גְּדוֹלִים] כַּאֲשֶׁר יְסַפֵּר לָכֶם מוֹסֵר כְּתָב זֶה, נִיט טָאפִּיל דַּוְקָא, פִיר מָאל אַזוֹי פִיל, אִיךְ הָאבּ נִיט [לֹא כָּפוּל דַוְקָא אֶלָּא אַרְבַּע פְּעָמִים כָּכָה וְאֵין לִי] אֲפִלּוּ פְּרוּטָה אַחַת.
I earnestly beg you — Rabbi Mosheh son of Rabbi Yisroel, together with Rabbi Mosheh son of Henyeh — to send me the money as stated above.
בֶּעט אִיךְ אַיְיךְ זֵייעֶר [אֲבַקֵּשׁ מִכֶּם מְאֹד], רַבִּי מֹשֶׁה בְּהָרַב רַבִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל, עִם רַבִּי מֹשֶׁה בֶּן הֶענְיֶע, צוּ שִׁיקְען מִיר [לִשְׁלֹחַ אֵלַי] מָעוֹת כַּנַּ"ל.
If G-d wills it that I return home, I shall settle the account however you wish. The matter is doubled and tripled — there is no other course of action — only to send the hundred adumim.
אִם יִרְצֶה ה' אַז אִיךְ וֶועל אַהֵיים קוּמֶען וֶועל אִיךְ מִיר אָפְּרֶעכִינֶין וִויא אִיר וֶועט וֶועלִין [כְּשֶׁאָבוֹא לְבֵיתִי אֶתְחַשֵּׁב הַחֶשְׁבּוֹן כְּפִי שֶׁתִּרְצוּ], הֻכְפַּל וְהֻשְׁלַשׁ הַדָּבָר שֶׁלֹּא לַעֲשׂוֹת בְּאֹפֶן אַחֵר רַק לִשְׁלֹחַ מֵאָה אֲדוּמִים.
Also, urge my wife to travel — that she should depart immediately and without delay.
גַּם לְזָרֵז אֶת זוּגָתִי אַז זִי זָאל פָארִין [שֶׁתִּסַע] תֵּכֶף וּמִיָּד.
Also, inform my dear friend our Teacher, the Rabbi Reb Nussun of Nemirov — and all our anshay shlomaynu (our fellowship of followers) — that they should pray to G-d for me, that He send me a refuah shleimah (a complete healing). My illness I will not write to you — ki haychay d'lo lisra mazlalay — so as not to worsen one's fortune (Nedarim 40). Only: let them pray for me in every single prayer.
גַּם לְהוֹדִיעַ לִידִידִי מוֹרֵנוּ הָרַב רַבִּי נָתָן מִנֶּעמְרוֹב וּלְכָל אַנְשֵׁי שְׁלוֹמֵנוּ אַז זֵייא זָאלִין פַאר מִיר גָּאט בֶּעטִין אַז עֶר זָאל מִיר שִׁיקְען אַיְין רְפוּאָה שְׁלֵמָה, מַיין חוֹלַאַת וֶועל אִיךְ אַייךְ נִיט שְׁרַיְיבְּען כִּי הֵיכֵי דְּלָא לִתְרַע מַזָּלֵהּ (נְדָרִים מ.). רַק אִיר זָאלְט מִתְפַּלֵּל זַיין פַאר מִיר [שֶׁיְּבַקְּשׁוּ עַבוּרִי מֵה' שֶׁיִּשְׁלַח לִי רְפוּאָה שְׁלֵמָה. אֶת הַמַּחֲלָה אֲנִי לֹא אֶכְתֹּב לָכֶם כְּדֵי שֶׁלֹּא לִתְרַע מַזָלֵיהּ רַק שֶׁתִּתְפַּלְלוּ עֲבוּרִי] בְּכָל תְּפִלָּה וּתְפִלָּה.
And do not forget the kindnesses I have shown to each one of you until now.
אוּן נִישְׁט צוּ פַארְגֶעסְן דִי טוֹבוֹת וָואס אִיךְ הָאבּ אַייךְ אִיטְלִיכֶען גִּיטָאהן בִּיז אַהֶער [וְלֹא לִשְׁכֹּחַ אֶת הַטּוֹבוֹת שֶׁעָשִׂיתִי לְכָל אֶחָד עַד עַכְשָׁיו].
And perhaps when Hashem Yisborach grants me healing, you will yet again be able to receive good from me.
אוּן אֶפְשָׁר אַז הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ וֶועט מִיר גֶּעבִּין=(רְפוּאָה), קָאנְט אִיר נָאךְ מְקַבֵּל זַיין טוֹבוֹת פוּן מִיר [וְאוּלַי כְּשֶׁהַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ יִתֵּן לִי (רְפוּאָה) תּוּכְלוּ עוֹד לְקַבֵּל טוֹבוֹת מִמֶּנִּי].
My beloved brothers and friends — I beg you most earnestly to beseech on behalf of my downtrodden soul — to beseech with kavanas ha'lev (with the full devotion of the heart). Let each one of you recall how you were when I first came to Breslov — and how much spiritual and material kochos (strength and vital energy) I expended on your account. It is therefore right and just that you now pray to Hashem Yisborach for me — that Hashem Yisborach heal me — as Hashem shows me the sweetness of His radiance (no'am zivo).
אֲהוּבַי אַחַי וְרֵעַי, אִיךְ בֶּעט זֵייעֶר צוּ בֶּעטִין בְּעַד נַפְשִׁי הָעֲלוּבָה, בְּכַוָּנַת הַלֵּב צוּ בֶּעטִין, דֶּערְמַאנְט אַייךְ אִיטְלִיכֶער וִוי אַזוֹי אִיךְ הָאבּ אַייךְ גֶּעפוּנֶען אַז אִיךְ בִּין גִּיקוּמֶען קַיין בְּרֶסְלֶב, אוּן וִויפִיל כֹּחוֹת בְּרוּחָנִיּוּת וְגַשְׁמִיּוּת אִיךְ הָאבּ אוֹיסְגִיבְּרַאכְט אַרוּם אַייךְ. אִיז דֶּער יֹשֶׁר אַז אִיר זָאלְט הַיינְט פַאר מִיר אוֹיךְ בֶּעטִין הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ, אַז הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ זָאל מִיךְ הֵיילִין [אַבַקֵּשׁ מְאֹד לְבַקֵּשׁ עֲבוּר נַפְשִׁי הָעַלוּבָה לְבַקֵּשׁ בְּכַוָּנַת הַלֵּב, תִּזְכְּרוּ לָכֶם כָּל אֶחָד אֵיךְ מָצָאתִי אֶתְכֶם כְּשֶׁבָּאתִי לִבְּרֶסְלֶב וְכַמָּה כֹּחוֹת בְּרוּחָנִיּוּת וְגַשְׁמִיּוּת הִשְׁקַעְתִּי אוֹדוֹתֵיכֶם, וּמִן הַיּוֹשֶׁר הוּא שֶׁעַכְשָׁיו תְּבַקְּשׁוּ עֲבוּרִי מֵה' יִתְבָּרַךְ שֶׁה' יִתְבָּרַךְ יְרַפְּאֵנִי] בְּהַרְאוֹת ה' לִי נֹעַם זִיווֹ.
Also, urge my wife to travel — for a eshes ne'urim (a wife of one's youth) is not easily replaced — and especially given that this involves only great expenses.
גַּם מְזָרֵז צוּ זַיְין אֶת זוּגָתִי זִיא זָאל פָארִין, וָוארִין אֵשֶׁת נְעוּרִים אִיז נִישְׁט צוּ קְרִיגִין, וּבִפְרָט עֶס אִיז בְּלוֹיז גְּרוֹיְסֶע הוֹצָאוֹת [גַּם לְזָרֵז אֶת זוּגָתִי שֶׁתִּסַּע, שְׁכֵּן אֵשֶׁת נְעוּרִים אֵין לִמְצֹא, וּבִּפְרָט שֶׁזֶּה רַק הוֹצָאוֹת גְּדוֹלוֹת].
Also, I ask of you that no one among you should dare come to me. I myself, if G-d wills it, will soon travel and come.
גַּם אִיךְ בֶּעט אַיְיךְ אַז עֶס זָאל קֵיינֶער פוּן אַיְיךְ נִיט דֶּערְוֶועגִין צוּ קוּמֶין, אִיךְ וֶועל אִם יִרְצֶה הַשֵּׁם בְּקָרוֹב קוּמֶין צוּ פָארִין [גַּם בַּקָּשָׁתִי מִכֶּם שֶׁאַף אֶחָד מִכֶּם אַל יָעֵז לָבוֹא, אַנִי אִם יִרְצֶה ה' בְּקָרוֹב אֶסַע וְאָבוֹא].
Are these not the words of one who truly loves you — with every one of you dwelling in the yearning of my heart?
הֲלֹא כֹּה דִּבְרֵי אוֹהַבְכֶם בֶּאֱמֶת וְכָל אֶחָד וְאֶחָד מִכֶּם יָתִיב בְּתַוְנָא דְּלִבָּאִי
Nachman, son of our Teacher, the Rabbi Simcha — may his Rock protect him and give him life.
נַחְמָן בֶּן מוֹרֵנוּ הָרַב שִׂמְחָה יִשְׁמְרֵהוּ צוּרוֹ וִיחַיֵּהוּ
Postscript
צוּ גְרִיסֶען [לִפְרוֹס שָׁלוֹם] לְכָל אַנְשֵׁי שְׁלוֹמֵנוּ לְכָל אֶחָד וְאֶחָד לְפִי מַעֲלָתוֹ הָרָמָה.
Greetings of peace to all our anshay shlomaynu — to each and every one, according to his high standing.
הֻכְפַּל הַדָּבָר מְזָרֵז צוּ זַיין אֶת זוּגָתִי זִיא זָאל פָארִין גִיךְ, אוּן נִיט צוּ זָאגִין פַאר אִיר אוּן נִיט פַאר דִּי קִינְדֶער פוּן דֶעם [לְזָרֵז אֶת זוּגָתִי שֶׁתִּסַע מַהֵר, וְלֹא לֹאמַר לָהּ וְלֹא לַיְלָדִים מִזֶּה].

נַחְמָן בֶּן מוֹרֵנוּ הָרַב שִׂמְחָה הַנַּ"ל
Postscript — Repeated with Urgency I repeat urgently: urge my wife that she should travel quickly — and do not say anything about this matter, neither to her nor to the children. Nachman son of our Teacher the Rabbi Simcha, as above.
