(כ) אמר כמה צלם אלקים היו מנחים ברפש שאני הוצאתים מהרפש והטיט שהיו שם, ועל ידי נתקרבו אליו יתברך בהתקרבות כזה שאין להם להתביש מצדיקים גדולים וכו', כי נראה בחוש שהמתקרבים אלי נשתנה פניהם, ובא עליהם פנים של יהודי בחינת צלם אלקים. הלא יש אצלי אנשים שאיני יודע אם השאול תחתיות היה די להם, כי גם השאול תחתיות היה קטן לפניהם, שאם היה אפשר להם לחתר תחת שאול תחתית היו חותרים, ועל ידי נתקרבו וכו':

(20.) He said: "How many images of G-d lay in the mire — and I extracted them from the mud and mire in which they were lying. And through me they drew close to Him, may He be blessed, with such drawing-close that they have no reason to be ashamed before great tzaddikim etc." For it was seen with physical experience that those who drew close to him had their faces changed — and the face of a Jew came upon them — the aspect of the image of G-d. "Have I not people with me of whom I do not know whether the deepest depths of gehinom would have been enough for them — for even the deepest depths of gehinom would have been too small for them — for if it were possible for them to tunnel beneath the deepest depths they would have tunneled. And through me they drew close etc."
