(לב) אמר לאחד מאנשיו שספר עמו מענין עבודת השם, אמר, הלא כבר עיני כלות כל היום, ואני עומד ומצפה ומקוה ומיחל ומחכה בכל עת שיזכני השם יתברך שאזכה לראות בכם מה שאני חפץ שתהיו עובדי השם באמת כרצוני, ואני מקוה בעזרת השם שבודאי יהיה כך. ולא בלבד אנשי שיהיו מקרבים אלי, אלא אפלו מי שיתקרב לאנשי שלומי, ואפלו מי שרק יגע בהם, בודאי יהיה איש כשר באמת. ולא איש כשר בלבד, כי אם אפלו צדיק גדול מאד יהיה מי [שיהיה] שיזכה להתקרב לאנשים שלו. ושמעתי שאמר בזו הלשון: "איך האב מיך שוין מיינע אויגן אויס גיקוקט אויף איטליכן באזונדער". [בעיני כבר הסתכלתי על כל אחד בנפרד] ואני מקוה לה' וכו' כנ"ל ואמר גם אז: כבר גמרתי ואגמר "איך האב אויס גיפירט און וועל אויס פירן":

He said to one of his people who was talking with him about the service of G-d: "Have my eyes not already been spent all day — and I stand and await and hope and long and wait at every time that Hashem Yisburach grant me that I merit to see in you what I desire — that you be truly G-d-fearing servants as I wish. And I hope with G-d's help that it will certainly be so. And not only my people who are closely attached to me — but even one who draws close to my people, and even one who merely touches them — will certainly be a truly proper man. And not only a proper man — but even a very great tzaddik will be, whoever merits to..."
