And illuminates in the heart of every one of Israel — that even in the very ultimate complete darkness, he should also strengthen himself with strong desires and great yearnings to return to Hashem Yisburach. And even any arousal at all — as thin as a hairsbreadth — is never lost forever. For the true Tzadik watches over this — and gathers and collects all the good desires — and builds from them wondrous buildings. He gathers and collects and assembles all the good points within them. The entire essential existence and standing for us — in the very intensity of the overpowering darkness of these our days — is only through the true Tzadik.
אַף-עַל-פִּי שֶׁהַמַּיִם רַבִּים אַדִּירִים מִשְׁבְּרֵי יָם מִתְגַּבְּרִים עַל כָּל אָדָם כָּל-כָּךְ כָּל-כָּךְ, בְּחִינַת "כָּל מִשְׁבְּרֶיךָ וְגַלֶּיךָ עָלַי עָבָרוּ", אַף-עַל-פִּי כֵן מִכֻּלָּם אַדִּיר בַּמָּרוֹם ה' וּלְעוֹלָם יָדוֹ עַל הָעֶלְיוֹנָה וְהוּא יִגְמֹר הַכֹּל כִּרְצוֹנוֹ וְיָבִיא הַכֹּל אֶל הַתַּכְלִית הַטּוֹב הָאֲמִתִּי הַנִּצְחִי, כִּי כְּבָר הִקְדִּים וְנָתַן לְיִשְׂרָאֵל קְדֻשַּׁת אוֹר הַצַּדִּיק שֶׁעַל-יָדוֹ יִתְגַּלֶּה אֱלֹקוּתוֹ יִתְבָּרַךְ לְעֵין כֹּל וִיתַקֵּן הַכֹּל.
For there is no stone in the world that it would not be within his power to transform into a "heart of flesh" [Ezekiel 36:26].
כָּל מַה שֶּׁהַדִּין גָּדוֹל בְּיוֹתֵר צְרִיכִין לְהַמְשִׁיךְ חֶסֶד גָּדוֹל בְּיוֹתֵר לְהַמְתִּיקוֹ וּלְבַטְּלוֹ, וְגֹדֶל הַדִּינִים וְהַחשֶׁךְ שֶׁל דּוֹרוֹתֵינוּ אֵלֶּה אִי אֶפְשָׁר לְבַטֵּל כִּי אִם עַל-יְדֵי רִבּוּי הַחֶסֶד הַנִּמְשָׁךְ בְּכֹחַ הַצַּדִּיק הָאֱמֶת.
And there is no confused person in the world that it would not be within his power to uproot from him all confusions — and to transform him into an upright heart.
אִם רַק טוֹעֲמִין טוּב טַעַם וְדַעַת שֶׁל מַעְיְנוֹת חָכְמוֹת הַתּוֹרוֹת הַקְּדוֹשׁוֹת וְהַנְּעִימוֹת מֵהַצַּדִּיק הֶחָכָם הָאֱמֶת, אֲזַי שׁוּב לֹא יִכְבֶּה נֵרוֹ אֲפִלּוּ בְּתוֹךְ כָּל מִינֵי חשֶׁךְ וְהִתְרַחֲקוּת שֶׁעוֹבֵר עַל כָּל אֶחָד.
My dearest heart, Mr. Z. Shazar, who is wholly suffused with love for the Tzadik who possesses the wondrous instrument — that when it is placed upon any type of creature or animal in the world, at once it begins to play the most wondrous and exquisitely pleasant melody, a pleasure so wonderful and immense to hear, that all the pleasures of the entire world are as nothing, uncounted and utterly nullified compared to the wondrous pleasure of this melody. The covenant of our love shall never be broken nor extinguished forever. Just as Rabbainu za.tza.l. warned greatly regarding unity and love of friends (ahavas chavairim), and said: "Anan b'chabivusa talya" {among us everything depends on love} — the world must be astounded by our love. Hashem knows the innermost depth of my heart, which is bound and attached in the very depth of my heart with surpassing love, great love, and eternal love, truly, at every time and at every moment — and I am ready and prepared to give my life for his wellbeing and his eternal salvation. And I pray always, day and night, that Hashem increase upon him years of life — a long life, a good and true life — and reveal to him the light of the Tzadik, hidden and concealed and most deeply secret from all the worlds, who knows how to play the supernal melody and song, the most select of all songs and melodies in the world, through which he shatters and nullifies and completely annihilates all kinds of falsehood and error in the world.
אֵשׁ אַהֲבָתְךָ תּוּקַד בְּקִרְבִּי תָּמִיד וְאֵינֶנִּי יָכוֹל לְהָזִיז אַהֲבָתִי מֵאִתְּךָ אֲפִלּוּ שָׁעָה אַחַת. אַהֲבָתִי וְחַסְדִּי מֵאִתְּךָ לֹא יִתְקַלְקֵל וְלֹא יָמוּשׁ לְעוֹלָם כִּי הִיא רַק אֱמֶת, וֶאֱמֶת ה' לְעוֹלָם תָּמִיד, וְעַל-יָדָהּ יִתָּקְנוּ כָּל הַתִּקּוּנִים בִּשְׁלֵמוּת וְכָל הַזְּדוֹנוֹת יִתְהַפְּכוּ לִזְכֻיּוֹת בְּכֹחַ הַצַּדִּיק הָאֱמֶת הַנַּחַל נוֹבֵעַ.
These include the foolishnesses and lies of the false leaders — the diviners and sorcerers who glorify and lord themselves over a poor people not for the sake of Heaven, who pursue honor and grandeur for their own benefit — and they intensify the lust of licentiousness (taavas ni'uf) and heresy in the world, and bring about what they bring about.
יֵשׁ בְּלִבִּי הַרְבֵּה לִכְתֹּב לְךָ, רַק מֵחֲמַת עֲיֵפוּת נַפְשִׁי לֹא אוּכַל לִכְתֹּב כִּלְבָבִי, וְגַם זֹאת כָּתַבְתִּי בְּכָל כֹּחִי לְמַעַן נֹעַם אַהֲבָתְךָ הַתָּקוּעַ בְּלִבִּי. זֹאת נֶחָמָתִי, אֲשֶׁר יְדַעְתִּי שֶׁמֻּשְׁרָשׁ בִּפְנִימִיּוּת לְבָבְךָ נְקֻדַּת אֱמֶת וְהָאֱמוּנָה הַקְּדוֹשָׁה בַּה' וּבְתוֹרָתוֹ וּבְהַצַּדִּיק הָאֱמֶת בְּחִיר מִבְּחִירֵי צַדִּיקַיָּא שֶׁהוּא מַעְיָן כָּל הַיְשׁוּעוֹת, אֲשֶׁר נִבֵּא לְדוֹרוֹת לְכָל אֶחָד כָּל מַה שֶּׁיַּעֲבֹר עָלָיו, וּבִדְבָרָיו יְכוֹלִין לְהִתְנַחֵם וּלְהַחֲיוֹת אֶת נַפְשֵׁנוּ תָּמִיד, וְאֵין לְהַאֲרִיךְ לְנָבוֹן וְנִלְבָּב כָּמוֹהוּ.
And these include the errors and confusions and difficulties and heresies of the natural scientists — who are in the aspect of wild beasts that prey upon and devour great numbers of our people.
הַכּוֹתֵב בַּעֲיֵפוּת גָּדוֹל וּמְצַפֶּה לִישׁוּעָה שְׁלֵמָה.
Hashem Yisburach in His great mercy has separated us from both of these deluded ones and has commanded us to distance ourselves from their ways — to flee and to rescue one's soul from them. Until in the end he will complete what he desires. And therefore, one who has a truly sound mind in his head, and looks upon truth, and takes pity upon his own true life, it is proper for him to roll about in mud and mire, and to crawl upon the ground, even among serpents and scorpions, until he merits to draw and to suckle from this awesome and exalted new light, the like of which has never existed since the beginning of the world, whose great power is able to elevate everything, even from actual apostasy, to the ultimate heights of ascent.
