The essential purification from the evil bloods — which are the evil desires — the filth of the serpent — that clings to us — is through bearing disgrace and much shedding of blood. And to be silent and quiet — for the sake of meriting to teshuvah. And to draw close to the true Tzadik in truth. Through which "dam" (blood) is transformed to "dom" (silence). Through fulfilling: "Be still before Hashem" [Psalms 37:7], etc.
