Hashtatfchus HaNefesh
Sadness is like someone is angry and upset, like someone who resentfully finds fault and complains against Him Blessed He, Heaven forbid, for not doing for him as he wishes; however, a broken heart is like a son who expresses his yearning before his father, like a baby who complains and cries before his father for being distant from him etc.. (Words of Rabbi Nachman, article 42, and furthermore see below article 34).

If you believe that one can corrupt — believe that one can repair. Regarding the matter of how specifically in the time of the overpowering of the darkness and the descent and the concealment-within-concealment — that is specifically the essential time of drawing close and awakening to true teshuvah: see "Rosh Chodesh," Ois 13. When one arrives at the ultimate descent and concealment, G-d forbid, then specifically one draws close to Hashem, may He be blessed, in the utmost proximity, so to speak — for there at the ultimate concealment and descent Hashem, may He be blessed, Himself is clothed, so to speak, without garment, in the aspect of: "And I will pass through the land of Egypt… I, and not an angel" — as is known. Therefore specifically then, when one merits to reveal the concealment, one can draw close to Him truly — for then specifically one is very close to Him. Therefore specifically then one can draw close to Him and return in teshuvah. But for this one needs great knowledge [da'as gadol]: to know this and to calculate the moment when one arrives at the ultimate concealment, and to know that specifically then one draws close to Him very greatly — through which one transforms the concealment to knowledge [da'as].
