תּוֹרָה קצז

It is not the virtue of humility to show oneself with a bowed head in a manner of foolishness — as if one is humble. For this is invalid humility. And the primary completeness of humility is when it is with wisdom. And through the slander [lashon ha-ra] that the world speaks — a separation is made between humility and wisdom. And then it is impossible for the Tzadikim to be humble. (Said the transcriber: from this is understood the Targum Yonasan: ""when Moshe saw his humility — he called his name Yehoshua."" And our Sages of blessed memory expounded: ""May G-d save you"" etc. — that is, he prayed for him that through the slander of the spies — his humility not be blemished.) Except for one who is very great in level in the attribute of humility — until even the blemish of the world's slander does not damage his humility.
