תּוֹרָה רא - צְדָקָה תַּצִּיל מִמָּוֶת

It is alluded to in the Targum [Eichah 2:9] on the verse: ""they gave their voice in the house of Hashem as on a festival day"" — that on Pesach one cries out in prayer. "Tz'dakah Tatzil Mi-Maves" — the initial letters of these words spell "matzah" [מַצָּה]. (It appears from this that charity is a remedy to be saved on Pesach from the prohibition of chametz — which is the "sitra d'mosa" [the side of death] — and to merit the holiness of eating matzah in completeness. And from this is understood somewhat why it has been established by the early authorities and from the words of our Sages of blessed memory to give money for wheat to the poor before Pesach.) A remedy [segulah] for the falling sickness — G-d have mercy — to distribute charity — ""he distributed — he gave to the poor"" [Psalms 112:9] — the initial letters of these words spell "nofel" [נֹפֵל — fallen one].
