A great principle in the service of Hashem — not to place before one's eyes anything except that very day in which one stands. Whether in the matter of livelihood and one's needs — one should not think from one day to the next — as is written in the books. And likewise in the service of Hashem — one should not place before one's eyes except that very day and that very hour alone. For when one wishes to enter the service of Hashem — it seems to one as if it is a heavy burden — and one cannot carry such a heavy burden. But when one thinks that one has only that day — there will be no burden at all. Also — not to postpone from day to day — saying: tomorrow I will begin — tomorrow I will pray with devotion and strength as it should be and the like. For a person has in his world only that day and that hour in which he stands. For tomorrow is an entirely different world: ""today if you hear His voice"" [Psalms 95:7] — "today" specifically.
