There is one who is diligent and gains — and there is one who is diligent and loses. That is — one who is a Tzadik from his youth — and walks the straight path all one's days. When one is overly diligent — one loses through this. For when one goes moderately from commandment to commandment — one can attain the holiness that is between commandment and commandment. But when one runs with diligence to the commandment — one passes and skips over the attainment of the above-mentioned holiness (see the main text). But one who needs to do teshuvah — must be specifically very very diligent. To hurry and run greatly to rescue one's soul. And it is forbidden to delay at all — to stand and settle. For one must run and leap over what one must leap — and jump to holiness with great diligence. And such a person is diligent and gains.
