א. אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁאָמְרוּ רַבּוֹתֵינוּ זַ"ל אִלְמָלֵי נָגְדוּהָ לַחֲנַנְיָה מִישָׁאֵל וַעֲזַרְיָה וְכוּ', אַף עַל פִּי כֵן כְּבָר נִמְצְאוּ הַרְבֵּה מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל שֶׁקִּדְּשׁוּ הַשֵּׁם, אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁעָשׂוּ לָהֶם כָּל הַיִּסּוּרִים וְהַכָּאוֹת וְכָל עִנְיָנִים [עִנּוּיִים] שֶׁבָּעוֹלָם.
Even though our Rabbis of blessed memory said: "Had they tortured Chananiah, Mishael, and Azaryah, etc." [they would have recanted — Talmud Bavli, Kesuvos 33b] — even so, there have already been found many from Israel who sanctified the Divine Name [kiddesh ha'Shem] — even though they inflicted upon them all the sufferings and beatings and all the torments in the world.
