יְהִי רָצוֹן מִלְּפָנֶיךָ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתֵינוּ, שֶׁתְּזַכֵּנִי לִהְיוֹת בְּשִׂמְחָה תָמִיד. וְתַעַזְרֵנִי וְתוֹשִׁיעֵנִי שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לַעֲשׂוֹת כָּל הַמִּצְוֹת וְכָל הַדְּבָרִים שֶּׁבִּקְדֻשָּׁה בְּכֹחַ גָּדוֹל, עַד שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לְהַזִּיעַ בִּשְׁעַת עֲשִׂיַּת הַמִּצְוָה אוֹ הַדָּבָר שֶׁבִּקְּדֻשָּׁה, וְעַל־יְדֵי־זֶה אֶזְכֶּה שֶׁיֵּצְאוּ מִמֶּנִּי כָּל הַדָּמִים הָעֲכוּרִים וְכָל הָאַרְסִיִּים רָעִים שֶׁיֵּשׁ בָּהֶם, הַכֹּל יֵצֵא לַחוּץ עַל־יְדֵי הַזֵּעָה טוֹבָה בִּשְׁעַת עֲשִׂיַּת דְּבָרִים שֶׁבִּקְּדֻשָּׁה, וְעַל־יְדֵי־זֶה אֶזְכֶּה לְהַכְנִיעַ הַטְּחוֹל שֶׁהוּא עֲכִירַת הַדָּמִים שֶׁמִּשָּׁם נִמְשָׁךְ הָעַצְבוּת חַס וְשָׁלוֹם, וְאֶזְכֶּה לִהְיוֹת בְּשִׂמְחָה תָמִיד וּלְגָרֵשׁ וּלְבַטֵּל הָעַצְבוּת וְהַמָּרָה שְׁחוֹרָה מִמֶּנִּי, שֶׁלֹּא יִהְיֶה לָהֶם שׁוּם שְׁלִיטָה וַאֲחִיזָה בִּי כְּלָל, רַק אֶזְכֶּה לִהְיוֹת אַךְ שָׂמֵחַ תָּמִיד:
Out of the depths I have called to You, Hashem; O Lord — hear my voice; may Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications [Psalms 130:1–2].
וּתְרַחֵם עָלֵינוּ וְעַל כָּל עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְתִשְׁמְרֵנוּ וְתַצִּילֵנוּ מִכָּל מִינֵי חֳלָאִים וּמַכְאוֹבִים וּמִכָּל מִינֵי חֻלְשׁוֹת, וְתַחְמֹל עַל כָּל חוֹלֵי עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר כְּבָר נָפְלוּ לְמִשְׁכָּב, שֶׁתִּשְׁלַח לָהֶם מְהֵרָה זֵעָה טוֹבָה, וְעַל־יְדֵי־זֶה יֵצְאוּ מֵהֶם כָּל הָאַרְסִיִּים רָעִים שֶׁל הַדָּמִים הָעֲכוּרִים, וְעַל־יְדֵי־זֶה תִּרְפָּאֵם רְפוּאָה שְׁלֵמָה בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ, וְתִשְׁלַח עֲלֵיהֶם וְעָלֵינוּ שִׂמְחָה גְּדוֹלָה בֶּאֱמֶת. וְנִזְכֶּה שֶׁיִּהְיֶה נִמְשָׁךְ עָלֵינוּ תָמִיד הַשִּׂמְחָה שֶׁל יוֹם טוֹב עַל־יְדֵי זֵעָה טוֹבָה דִּקְדֻשָּׁה, שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לְהַכְנִיס כָּל כֹּחוֹתֵנוּ בִּשְׁעַת עֲשִׂיַּת כָּל מִצְוָה וּמִצְוָה וְכָל דָּבָר שֶׁהוּא רְצוֹנֶךָ, עַד שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לְהַזִּיעַ זֵעָה טוֹבָה, וְעַל־יְדֵי־זֶה נִזְכֶּה תָמִיד לְשִׂמְחָה שֶׁל יוֹם־טוֹב, לָגִיל וְלִשְׂמֹחַ בְּךָ תָמִיד בְּכָל יוֹם וָיוֹם, עַל אֲשֶׁר זִכִּיתָנוּ בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים, וּבָחַרְתָּ בָּנוּ מִכָּל הָעַמִּים וְרוֹמַמְתָּנוּ מִכָּל הַלְּשׁוֹנוֹת וְקִדַּשְׁתָּנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתֶיךָ וְקֵרַבְתָּנוּ מַלְכֵּנוּ לַעֲבוֹדָתֶךָ, וְשִׁמְךָ הַגָּדוֹל וְהַקָּדוֹשׁ עָלֵינוּ קָרָאתָ:
May it be Your will, Hashem our G‑d and G‑d of our fathers: that You grant me merit to always be in joy. And help me and save me — that I merit to perform all the commandments and all the matters of holiness with great strength; until I merit to perspire [l'hazzia] at the time of performing the commandment or the matter of holiness. And through this I merit that all the turbid bloods [damim ha'akhurim] and all the venomous evils in them leave me — everything goes out through the good sweat [ze'ah tovah] at the time of performing matters of holiness. And through this I merit to subdue the spleen [ha'techol] — which is the turbidity of the blood from which sadness [atzbus] is drawn, G‑d forbid; and may I merit to be in joy always and to banish and nullify the sadness and the black bile [marah shechorah] from me — that they have no dominion or grasp over me at all; rather may I merit to be always and only joyful.
רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם, אַתָּה יוֹדֵעַ כַּמָּה וְכַמָּה מַזִּיק לָנוּ הָעַצְבוּת חַס וְשָׁלוֹם, אֲבָל מַה נַּעֲשֶׂה וְהָעַצְבוּת וְהַמָּרָה שְׁחוֹרָה מִתְגַּבְּרִים עָלֵינוּ בְּכָל פַּעַם בְּהִתְגַּבְּרוּת גָּדוֹל בְּלִי שִׁעוּר, עַד אֲשֶׁר כָּשַׁל כֹּחַ הַסַּבָּל, וּמַה נַּעֲשֶׂה וַעֲוֹנוֹתֵינוּ עָשׂוּ. אַךְ כְּבָר הִזְהַרְתָּנוּ שֶׁאַף־עַל־פִּי־כֵן צְרִיכִין לְהִתְחַזֵּק לִהְיוֹת בְּשִׂמְחָה תָמִיד, וְכָל אָדָם כְּמוֹ שֶׁהוּא צָרִיךְ לְהִתְגַּבֵּר לְהַרְחִיק הָעַצְבוּת וְהַמָּרָה שְׁחוֹרָה, וּלְהַכְרִיחַ עַצְמוֹ בְּכָל הַכֹּחוֹת לִהְיוֹת בְּשִׂמְחָה תָּמִיד. עַל־כֵּן בָּאתִי לְפָנֶיךָ מָלֵא רַחֲמִים, שֶׁתָּחוֹס וְתַחְמֹל וּתְרַחֵם עָלֵינוּ בְּכָל־עֵת, וְתַעַזְרֵנוּ לְשַׂמֵּחַ אֶת נַפְשֵׁנוּ בְּכָל מִינֵי עֵצוֹת וּדְרָכִים, בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לְהַרְחִיק הָעַצְבוּת מֵאִתָּנוּ בְּכָל־עֵת, וְלִהְיוֹת בְּשִׂמְחָה תָמִיד, עַד שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה שֶׁיִּהְיֶה נִמְשָׁךְ עָלֵינוּ בְּכָל יוֹם וָיוֹם הַשִּׂמְחָה שֶׁל יוֹם־טוֹב קֹדֶשׁ, וְנִזְכֶּה לְהִתְבּוֹנֵן וּלְהַאֲמִין בְּמַעֲשֵׂי יְהֹוָה וְנִפְלְאוֹתָיו, אֲשֶׁר הוּא עוֹשֶׂה עִמָּנוּ בְּכָל יוֹם נִפְלָאוֹת וְנִסִּים גְּדוֹלִים וְנוֹרָאִים לְחַזְּקֵנוּ וּלְאָחֲזֵנוּ (וּלְאַמְּצֵנוּ) לְבַל נִמּוֹט לְעוֹלָם חַס וְשָׁלוֹם, כַּאֲשֶׁר כְּבָר גִּלִּיתָ דַּעְתֵּנוּ לִרְאוֹת מְעַט מֵרָחוֹק חֲסָדֶיךָ וְנִפְלְאוֹתֶיךָ וְטוֹבוֹתֶיךָ שֶׁאַתָּה עוֹשֶׂה עִמָּנוּ בְּכָל יוֹם וּבְכָל־עֵת וּבְכָל שָׁעָה, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב, מֵאֵת יְהֹוָה הָיְתָה זֹאת הִיא נִפְלָאת בְּעֵינֵינוּ. זֶה הַיּוֹם עָשָׂה יְהֹוָה נָגִילָה וְנִשְׂמְחָה בוֹ. שַׂמֵּחַ נֶפֶשׁ עַבְדֶּךָ כִּי אֵלֶיךָ יְהֹוָה נַפְשִׁי אֶשָּׂא. חַזְּקֵנִי וְאַמְּצֵנִי וְעָזְרֵנִי וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי בְּדַרְכֵי חֲסָדֶיךָ וְנִפְלְאוֹתֶיךָ הַנּוֹרָאוֹת, שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לִהְיוֹת בְּשִׂמְחָה תָמִיד בֶּאֱמֶת, אָמֵן כֵּן יְהִי רָצוֹן:
And have mercy upon us and upon all of Your people Israel; and guard us and save us from all manner of illnesses and afflictions and from all manner of weaknesses; and have compassion on all the sick of Your people Israel who have already taken to their bed — that You speedily send them good sweat; and through this all the venomous evils of the turbid bloods leave them; and through this may You heal them with complete healing through Your mercies; and send upon them and upon us great and true joy. And may we merit that the joy of the festival [simchas Yom Tov] be drawn upon us always through the good sweat of holiness; that we merit to invest all our powers at the time of performing each and every commandment and every matter that is Your will — until we merit to perspire with good sweat; and through this merit always to the joy of the festival; to exult and to rejoice in You always every single day — for what You have granted us merit through Your abundant mercies; and chosen us from all the nations; and raised us above all the tongues; and sanctified us with Your commandments; and brought us near, our King, to Your service; and Your great and holy Name is called upon us. Master of the Universe: You know how very harmful sadness is to us, G‑d forbid — but what can we do? For the evil inclination overturns us always and does not allow us to be happy. Rather help us in Your great mercies — to strengthen ourselves always to be only in joy; and not to allow any sadness or melancholy to seize hold of our hearts at all. And help us and save us with Your awesome wonders; that I merit to always be in joy in truth. Amen — so may it be Your will.
