משיבת נפש - Meshivas Nefesh
לִפְעָמִים נוֹפֵל הָאָדָם בְּדַעְתּוֹ כָּל כָּךְ עַד שֶׁאִי אֶפְשָׁר לוֹ לְהַחֲיוֹת אֶת עַצְמוֹ בְּשׁוּם דָּבָר כְּאִלּוּ אֵין בּוֹ שׁוּם טוֹב כְּלָל, אֲזַי צָרִיךְ גַּם כֵּן לַהֲפךְ הַדָּבָר וּלְהַתְחִיל מִצַּד הַשֵּׁנִי כַּנַּ"ל וְלַחֲשׁב בְּמַחֲשַׁבְתּוֹ, אִם כֵּן כְּפִי דַּעְתִּי אֲנִי כֻּלִּי רַע לְגַמְרֵי וְאֵין בִּי שׁוּם טוֹב כְּלָל, וְאָז דַּיְקָא מַתְחִיל לְהַרְגִּישׁ בְּעַצְמוֹ הַנְּקֻדּוֹת טוֹבוֹת שֶׁנִּמְצְאוּ בּוֹ עֲדַיִן, כִּי כְּנֶגֶד הַגָּרוּעַ וְהָרָע לְגַמְרֵי בְּוַדַּאי יִמְצָא בְּעַצְמוֹ גַּם בְּעצֶם גְּרִיעוּתוֹ כַּמָּה וְכַמָּה נְקֻדּוֹת טוֹבוֹת וְעַל יְדֵי זֶה יְחַיֶּה אֶת עַצְמוֹ. וְכֵן הוּא גַּם כֵּן לְגַבֵּי חֲבֵרוֹ, כִּי צָרִיךְ לָדוּן אֶת הַכּל לְכַף זְכוּת וְלִמְצא הַטּוֹב שֶׁיֵּשׁ בַּחֲבֵרוֹ, בְּחִינַת וְעוֹד מְעַט וְאֵין רָשָׁע, כַּמְבאָר בִּפְנִים (שָׁם אוֹת ו, עַיֵּן שָׁלוֹם אוֹת כ"ו)
Sometimes a person falls in spirit so greatly that he cannot revive himself by anything — as if there is no good in him at all. Then he must also flip the matter and begin from the other side — to think in his mind: since according to my reckoning I am entirely bad with no good at all — then precisely from that perspective he begins to feel within himself the good points that still exist in him. For against the totally worst and bad he will surely find in himself even in his very badness many good points. And through this he revives himself. And so too regarding his fellow — for one must judge everyone favorably and find the good in one's fellow. (ibid., Ois...)
