משיבת נפש - Meshivas Nefesh
עִנְיַן מַה שֶּׁאָסוּר לְיָאֵשׁ אֶת עַצְמוֹ לְעוֹלָם וּצְרִיכִין לְהִתְחַזֵּק מְאד בִּרְצוֹנוֹת וְכִסּוּפִין חֲזָקִים דִּקְדֻשָּׁה וּלְהַאֲמִין, שֶׁהָרָצוֹן בְּעַצְמוֹ הוּא גַּם כֵּן טוֹב וְשֶׁיְּכוֹלִין עַל יְדֵי זֶה לִזְכּוֹת לִתְשׁוּבָה שְׁלֵמָה, עַד שֶׁהַהִתְרַחֲקוּת יִהְיֶה תַּכְלִית הַהִתְקָרְבוּת וְהַיְּרִידָה יִהְיֶה תַּכְלִית הָעֲלִיָּה, (עַיֵּן רָצוֹן אוֹת כ"ז כ"ח כ"ט)
Regarding the matter of how one is forbidden ever to despair — and one must strengthen oneself greatly with holy wills, longings and yearnings, and believe that the will itself is also good and that through it one can merit complete teshuvah, so that the distancing becomes the ultimate drawing-close and the descent becomes the ultimate ascent.
