משיבת נפש - Meshivas Nefesh

The sum of the distancing of every person from Hashem — from great to small — is essentially through the old age of the sitra achra: by which it seems to each person as if everything is conducted in the old established way and he has already grown old in his ways and it is impossible for him to return from them — as it is written: "he will not believe he can return from darkness" [Job 15:22]. And all of this is through the old age that the evil inclination casts upon him, which is called "an old and foolish king." And therefore the entire tikun is through the Sages, the true Tzadikim, who renew themselves like the eagle — in the aspect of: "Those who hope in Hashem shall exchange their strength", etc. And through this they merit to renew genuine and wonderful Torah novellae at all times, for they strengthen themselves in their service each day anew as if they have not yet begun in the service of Hashem at all. And through this they attain each day and at every moment greater understanding of the Creator's greatness, and compile new holy books at all times — all in order to explain and reveal the greatness of the Creator and the greatness of the holy Torah and the greatness of the holiness of Jewish souls, for "the Torah, the Holy One blessed be He, and Israel are all one." And through this they draw new chasadim into the world each day and at every time — from which comes the essential hope for the very, very distant ones to merit teshuvah, those who have almost lost all hope because of the great provocation and overpowering — in the aspect of: "And I said: my strength is perished and my hope from Hashem" [Lamentations 3:18]. But the essential strengthening: "The mercies of Hashem have not ceased, they are renewed every morning", etc. — for His mercies and compassion, may He be blessed, never cease and never end forever, and further the mercies renew themselves every morning — which is the essential renewal of the act of Creation each day. And this is all the consolation and hope of each person — that Hashem, may He be blessed, renews wonderful and new mercies every morning — and according to the renewal of the mercies there is hope for all at all times.
